Even with the $2 charge, Amazon often represent excellent value for money compared with other outlets. Eg, "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" is $5.82, which is a fraction of what it costs elsewhere.

A K2i registered in the US allows full web browsing when in other countries. I discovered this when I switched on wireless while in Canada, and received a welcome message from Amazon (on the Kindle) stating that any purchases would be subject to a $2 surcharge because I was out of country, but web browsing was still avaiable at no charge.

Really? That's very interesting. I wonder if this would work in Europe, too. I plan to get my Kindle in the US and register it in the US, but I will be taking a lengthy trip to Europe.

Was the web browsing not restricted at all? So, it went to more than just wikipedia?
