That's how my sore throats usually start. The good news is sometimes that's all the further they go.

For no reason that I can discern, my computer suddenly decided that it wasn't going to work with any of the optical mice in the house. After turning it on and off a few times, and cursing it a bit, it reluctantly decided to recognise the logitech one.

Exactly - something IS better than nothing. Hubs isn't after a present, what he wants is just some recognition for his long-term service. I think it doesn't help that the upper managers there never thank the staff for anything.

My response from the email I wrote to the Director of the company was short and not-so-sweet: "you make some good points" !!!

What kind of a response is that! No apology, nothing.

I am encouraging hubs to retire asap - he's 55 so we're working our socks off now to pay the mortgage off in the next 5 years.

me mum recommends vinegar and treacle, gently soothes the throat and warms the innards.

Farking sodding mobile phone providers.

Last month I asked for a quote for a handset from a company. I received the quote, raised a purchase order and placed the order with them all within an hour.

Yesterday finance get an invoice for just over 10% more than the quote. The company are currently trying to tell me that not only did the price increase this much within that hour, but that they also advised me (despite accepting the order which stated the quoted amount).

Have told finance not to pay them. Have told the company I've told finance not to pay them.

Talking of mobile phones, yesterday I heard a radio interview with a teenage girl about mobile phone scams:

Interviewer - Tell us what happened to you.
Girl - Well, like, I ordered a hologram to be downloaded to my phone. And then it is was like every day they'd send me another one. And I was like being charged £1.50 every time; and there was no way to stop them.
Interviewer - Did you try to contact the people who were sending them?
Girl - Yeah, I tried ringing them and stuff; but I ain't never heard nothing back. And the holograms, they didn't even work.
Interviewer - What they never worked, even though you were being charged for them?
Girl - Yeah, they'd send these holograms every day; and like, they'd say something was going to happen, but it never did.

It was supposed to be delivered to his University Office, but they tried to deliver it to some other building. I guess he talked with Fed-ex about it. Too bad too because it would have been delivered on his birthday.

Hopefully he'll get it today.

Sorry about yours. You gotta watch 'em all the time!!!

Argh!

We had a problem with mail - basically one of the filters was sending messages saying mail had been blocked when it hadn't. We put a note on the company intranet explaining it (in plain, non techy English, too). Since then we've had about 2 dozen people telling us about the problem, and one person telling us that they know we know because they've read the message but they thought they'd tell us anyway. Now I don't mind lots of people telling me about a problem I know about when I haven't told anyone I know about it, but this is getting silly.
