Now, this is... WOW! I mean, just... WOW!!! I've read the whole 14 pages without pause (never done something like that before) and I'm really impressed. I don't even know where to start giving personal WOWs and THAT'S GREATs, so I'll sum it up for all the above posts:
AWESOME!!! I even got the courage to share some of my creations. The combination between watching a purification column dropping 10 drops per minute and having a sheet of aluminium in reach results to the attached images. ![]() ![]() Funny story: The Goose also has another name. When I showed the picture to my girlfriend, her first reaction was: Curious Goose? I would have called it "A lonely tree with two branches." I had to admit, she really had a point there, so now the Goose (or the Tree) has two names. Last edited by LCF; 03-04-2010 at 05:44 PM. |

Plainly forgot about my promise of posting a final picture of that carving. Actually, when I took the picture of that house, I was totally outraged at how ughly it was. The original plans called for a three storey structure; they only built one, so the house is totally disproportionate and trollish looking.
And worse, they still owe me wages for three months work. The concrete replica of my carving looks nice though. Last edited by yvanleterrible; 07-28-2010 at 11:39 PM. |

Did they take a cast of the carving to make the replica or how did they do that. The house is a bit top heavy, but still looks grand. |

There are many things 'wrong' with this, but it is my first drawing for at least 2 years, so on that basis I'm very pleased with it ... There is a lot of white hair that I struggled with, not least the long whiskers. |

Wow, I didn't realize that you were the artist, Geoff. The larger picture shows detail much better.
I'm very impressed, it's very beautiful and lifelike. You are, indeed, a man of many talents. ![]() |

To make the mould, I had to encase the carving edges in plywood about 6" thick. Then they filled everything with silicone. Silicone comes, like epoxy, in two liquids that react chemically to become rubbery. This flexible particularity allows separation of the mould from the "plug" (original artwork) . The silicone itself for this unit cost 5000$. Once they had this casting they set it on a vibrating staging plate and poured in the concrete. A moulding like this is good for about 30 reproductions without major repair. The house walls were made this way too. I made some of the detail moulding around doors and windows out of wood. Those they dealt with themselves. I'm adding a picture of the "plug" on the day of delivery. Last edited by yvanleterrible; 07-28-2010 at 11:39 PM. |

LCF, are these sort of origami? That is, you created them by folding aluminum sheet, not by dripping something from the purification column, right?
GeoffC, that's a lovely image. I particularly like the reflections on the eyes. ![]() yvan, thanks for sharing the final image of the casting. I'm appalled that they still haven't paid you, though. ![]() |

Beautiful! Your feline model has the long whiskers like my baby cat (can't get her to hold still for photo) - I call them Fu Manchu whiskers!.
