Not many devices are wired to support both client and host mode on the same port. One that comes to mind is the HTC Hero android phone.

Were you thinking of usb keyboards? USB Storage would require an adapter cable unlike the Iliad. Wow, they really had the resources to throw everything into the device, back in the Iliad days.

Personally, I was thinking about a USB wifi adapter. But USB keyboards are another one that many people have asked for in the past.

Actually, a lot of USB controllers for embedded systems support USB-on-the-go these days. My DR800 hasn't arrived yet, I'm curious if someone has run dmesg on theirs yet to see what all is detected chipset-wise...

OK, curiosity got the best of me. Could someone who has a DR800 already untar this onto their sd card and run it? It will create six text files in the root of your SD card with the output of various linux commands (dmesg, lsmod, mount, ifconfig, lsusb, and ls -R /sys/ for the curious). Attach those back and maybe we can see what all is under the hood...

Another self-folowup: looking at the DR800's firmware and the modules they load, it is a OTG chipset capable of either host or device mode. There is also support for Atheros ar6000 wifi devices at least at the linux layer. Not sure if there's anything in the GUI for it yet.

Maybe because this is "European" version without "radio"

I believe it's similar on the DR1000. Technically it's an OTG chipset, but the USB port is physically not wired to support it. The question is whether the DR800 has the same issue.

Somebody said in another thread that networking support was taken out of the DR800S firmware.

I wasn't really expecting the radio to be present but just not enabled in the S models. Until someone does a tearapart and we know what the insides look like the question of installing your own radio aftermarket is unclear and definitely not for the average user...

I poked around the firmware some more and the qualcom radio module on the SG looks to be connected via the USB bus. They insert the otg module to put the USB in host mode before connecting, and remove the module on disconnect. I don't know enough about the OTG physical spec though to speculate on whether the external USB jack is also in host mode while the wireless is connected...

Is the zoom feature on the 1000 and the upcoming version of 8000 able to save it's position through the pages? I was asking since it is quite annoying to re-zoom every page like on the Sony. The 8000 with the right updates might become the e-reader with the right functions. Especially for documents and academic e-books.

The zoom for the DR 1000 can be saved, it does not need to re-zoom for every page. So, naturally, we are assuming it will be the same for the DR 800.
