Right now I'm celebrating Shannon's victory over the housing market. It's been a struggle, but we (well, Shannon) finally put a bid on a townhouse where she wasn't kicked out by an investor and was accepted by the seller. Now it goes to the bank for their approval because it's a short sale. This particular house has already gone through the bank process once but the original buyers backed out after it took them 9 months to come to a decision. Hopefully, things should go much more quickly for Shannon. The crumby part of the whole process was investors coming in and out bidding new home buyers. I feel bad for young people who want to buy a house but can't because the investors are buying up the inventory in the lower price ranges.

I also just put down a deposit on a Pomeranian puppy for Shannon's 23rd birthday in two weeks. She was really thinking about getting a BIG dog (her first choice was a Newfie, KK) but since her new house is a townhouse with no real yard, she decided on getting a lap dog now and getting a bigger dog with her next house. She chose the breed but she doesn't know that I found a black Pomeranian puppy which she could pretend was a REALLY tiny newfie! The nice thing is, I'll be able to housetrain the puppy for her before she moves into her new place. More work for me, but a great gift for her. Hey! That's what mom's are for!
if there's still time you might reconsider a Newfie. they actually make incredibly excellent apartment/townhouse dogs. they aren't hyper, they don't run around like mad and they aren't yappy. when a Newfie barks it means there is something to pay attention to that is probably fairly serious. they aren't even doorbell barkers! the biggest downside is that you have to learn how to do everything from 2 feet away... from the stove, the sink, the counter and so on. as my kids were quick to tell everyone, they're mobile rugs!

(and no one messes with a single woman with a Newfie!)

She would LOVE a Newfie but even taking the townhouse out of the equation, it wouldn't fit in her Nissan 350Z convertable. We have a new neighbor who has a Newfie and they tried to put the dog in the passenger seat of her car and it just wouldn't work. I told her she could always trade in her car for something like a small SUV but she loves her car and isn't willing to trade. Not to mention that she will have to go TDY occasionally so I'll be doing the dog sitting. We already have 3 dogs. I couldn't imagine adding a Newfie into that mess!

when I had my first Newfies I had a VW Bug and 2 kids. the big female would sit in the front passenger seat normally with one "arm" and her head hanging out of the window. the smaller male would "share" the backseat with the kids. I used to get a LOT of looks at stoplights and would occasionally see "bear?" mouthed my startled drivers. I think y'all are missing out on an incredible deal, but I know we all have our own needs and wants

That sounds like fun! Glad Strider likes it so seriously.

Having now installed Snow Leopard and iLife 09 on my iMac, I'm now installing iWork 09.

Only 6 minutes remaining until installation is complete!

Oh, wait. Now it's 24 minutes. Only 24 minutes remaining until installation is complete!

Oh, oh, hold the phone ... now it says 36 minutes until the installation is complete.

Man, when it comes to estimating installation time, those folks at Apple have got the science down to an art!

I'm at work, but I decided two days ago I needed a vacation. I think I've decided on the Iberostar in Jamaica. They have three resorts (good, nice, and nicest). My travel agent gave me the price for the "good" one, which was under my budget, so I asked for her to check the prices for nice and nicest (really want to go to nicest, as no kids are allowed, but it might be too expensive). I'll probably end up going by myself, but I'm trying to con someone into going with me. I'm so ready to go right now though!!!

I try to avoid looking at that screen if I can. I just pick up my CyBook and go to the next room. One good book later, I usually find that the install is complete... unless, of course, it has been waiting for me to click on the "OK, OK, I accept the **** terms, can we just get on with the **** installation already?" button

I went last year for a wedding to the Bahamas. The resort I stayed at wasn't that great (it was spring break, and the walls were paper thin) but the island was gorgeous.

at this place the rooms were exquisite and I never heard anything. then again I went to bed every night absolutely exhausted from playing so hard! I sailed every day, went swimming with the dolphins (that was quite an experience!), and one day we had a mandatory company get together team building doo-da
