All the posturing is still irrelevant to me as long as I am saddled with DRM.

Apples vs. oranges when it comes down to price relationships. DRM = less value than a paper book.

How can they justify $9.99 for an eBook when I can get the same paperback for $7.99 sans any discount?

My take is that Macmillan is taking away the retailer's ability to run sales, promotions, and membership dealios like this (20-37% off) with their ebook prices. This is why I'm against this agency model bit. If they want total control of prices let 'em do their own direct selling like Baen.

If you think that's bad - check this out! (although not MacMillan):

That's my concern also. I wonder if loyalty programs like Fictionwise Buywise club with Micropay rebates will be allowed.

BTW, it appears that John Sargent is actually reading the comments on the MacMillan blog, so if you want him to explain how they're going to implement pricing, ask it there.

The paper back price is listed as $2.90 plus $3.99 for shipping. The ebook has no shipping so the Kindle price should be $2.90 at the most. They have it listed at $24.95! That is $22.05 over the correct price. I sure hope no one falls for that!

I also believe ebooks should be cheaper than any hard copy as long as they remain an inferior product due to DRM and formatting infelicities.

If I got my little wish list of an mp3 of every song mentioned in the book I'm reading included in the download, I would be willing to pay more

I would happily buy $1 extra for a DRM free ebook since it is more useful to me.

OOP books -> Prices quadruple?
I think by "printed list" he means the current New York Times bestseller list as printed in the newspaper. I base this inference on the fact that he refers to the NYT bestseller list in the same sentence.

Yeah I'm not familiar with other e-book stores, but with the Kindle store the book prices are almost always the same as the paper back price on Amazon for books I've bought. I think I've came across one so far that was a still $9.99 after the paperback came out, which I didn't buy. And that was probably just a lag in adjusting the pricing.

I'm sure there are a lot of books on their that cost more than the paperbacks, I've just had good luck thus far with the one's I wanted to buy.

...In America. Outside, the premium they add (usually over a higher price anyway) means...

I know, don't you hate it when you buy at $6.99 and the next day it is $2.62? OUCH.
