If you like thrillers, I highly recommend Scott Nicholson's The Skull Ring, a spine-tingling story that kept me up turning (e-book) pages late into the night. While I don't usually read books about the occult, this one was truly exceptional, for its great protagonist, gripping story and vivid writing.

The book takes you into the mind of Julia Stone, who suffered an occult-related childhood trauma so horrible she's constantly on the look-out for creeps who threaten her safety. Her search for solutions takes her even deeper into the heart of the very danger she seeks to escape. Nicholson's
writing packs a visceral punch that'll keep you hooked throughout. The question of who Julia should trust is omnipresent, right up to the book's thrilling conclusion.

At a $1.99 on Kindle, it's a steal. The book is a "must read."
I see The Skull Ring is also at Smashwords for those of us who don't have a Kindle.

Edit -- but the download sample is only the cover - no book text - useless!!

Finished "7th Heaven" (Woman's Murder Club no 7: James Patterson) last night after picking it up at the library yesterday morning. Now busy with "The 8th Confession" also a WMC book.

Wow, that's good to know! Is Hank her real name?

It's weird - one of the characters in my mystery is called Charlie for Charlotte and I'd only heard that used once, by a little girl in real life.

I'm halfway through Thin Blood by Vicki Tyley, and I only started it this morning. Up to now it is surprisingly good and very hard to put down. Not to mention that I have not found a single typo, which is almost never the case with ebooks I buy lately.

I love reading organising books. I can procrastinate while preserving an illusion of efficiency.

Read The God Delusion last year and thought it was excellent. Then, to give the other side a fair chance, I read Life After Death by Dinesh D'Souza. The author of this book states that he proves the after life scientifically but all he does is talk about the near death experience. Apart from that he mainly brags about how good his science is when it is obvious there is no science involved.

Minette Walters is a wonderful (IMHO) mystery writer - not appreciated highly enough in the US.

Hank is a nickname. I used to know what her real name is, but I can't remember it at the moment. I do know that she is one of the friendliest people on the planet and can make you feel like you've known her for years very quickly. Let me give you an example. I'm acquainted with Hank through Facebook and various blogs, and I won a copy of Prime Time, so that necessitated some correspondence. We're not like best friends or anything. But the second time I ever talked to her, she asked me if I was going to be at the latest mystery convention, and if so, she'd be glad to show me around. A few weeks ago, (before the Macmillan/Amazon thing), she announced she was going to be at an event with a few other authors, Donna Andrews included. Well, I am a huge, huge, huge fan of the mysteries that Donna Andrews writes. So...going out on a limb, I messaged Hank via Facebook and asked her if she got a chance could she ask Donna what was up with the unavailability of her titles in ebook formats. She said, "sure, no problem". The day after she got back from the event, I had a message from her, saying Donna was thrilled that I asked, and that her publisher (Macmillan) was blaming Amazon for the hold up. The fact that she remembered to ask at all shocked me to the core - Hank is probably one of the ten busiest people on earth, so that really touched me.
