There was a radio adaptation on over the weekend and they pronounced Marchbanks.
First names too, like Hermione in the Harry Potter books. I got through 2 and half books pronouncing it as "her me own"

I was able to retrieve the MP3 player before the next car came, but had to wait for 5 cars to run over the SD card before I could retrieve it. It looks just fine, but nothing will recognize it. I have other cards, and I can replace the content that was on the card, but it will take me hours to get it organized the way it was! I have backups of the files but not of the way in which they were organized on the card.

The only file for which I do not have a backup was an audiobook in which I had about 45 minutes remaining. The suspense is killing me!
oh no ! that would drive me completely MAD. i hope you manage to finish your book soon, and that it doesn't take you too long to get your files organised again... (i guess from now on you'll make a backup of the file structure too, then ? )

Spoiler:
Fanshaw

Or one that caught me out is a place name in Scotland; Milngavie

Spoiler:
Mul-guy

i sympathise with you (nobody can pronounce my name, and even fewer people can spell it, although it's really very simple ), but your name seems like it should be really easy. i can't actually think of an alternate (wrong) pronunciation. how do people pronounce it ?

My last name (Proctor) is a good old English name. There is a branch of the family that settled in the Ohio River Valley a long time ago. One of the sons of that group was a store keeper with a partner named Gamble. They had a really good flaked soap that they sold and decided to go into the distribution business. When the labels came back from the printer, it was misspelled (Procter). Being cheap, they decided to just change his name (Easier to do back in those days). So, now, everyone in the world, when I tell them my name, I have to spell for them Proct OH r. Sheesh.

sheesh. you'd think that with the fortune they were going to make on that soap they could have had those bloody labels reprinted, so as to avoid this sort of pain and heartache for all future generations of ProctOrs...

My surname also gets misspelled (or perhaps misheard) a lot. Its 'Frankish' and I am fed up of being asked 'how do you spell that?' - how else could you spell it?!?

If pshyrnk's going to drop Procter & Gamble on us then I'll name drop as well The sharp eyed amongst you may have noticed that my avatar is a map of the Frankish Empire. The most famous leader of that empire was Charlemagne, to whom, presumably, I trace my ancestry back to.

Those of you who read Dan Brown will also, no doubt, recall that the Merovingians were also part of the Frankish clan and that it was these who Dan Brown 'proved' were the continuation of Jesus' bloodline.

So, pshrynk, you keep P&G, I'm related to the son of God

And did you advise them to use that (so-called) "satanist" logo?
There was such a fuss about it in the 1980s, mostly made by fundamentalists.

Yes, Warwich = Warwick
