kartu what are the new functions of this new release? Because i've seen many differences between this new and others older, a part from is it necesary to change the firmware to accede to the localizations? you say to translate to spanish it's necesary to modify the english.js (only appears the name of the menus of the installer) at rest of the names of the menus where are they changed? also the scripts don't have return line at the end like older why is the reason?

Victor, it's not a release, it's just a tool that can install/update PRS+, backup firmware (should allow to flash to UK/DE/FR firmware later, if someone decides to), "downgrade" to US firmware. PRS+ is sitll not localized (I expect to do it with 1.1 release)

Scripts were compressed by jsmin tool, the uncompressed version with comments is still available on the project site ("source" tab).

Kartu if i use this tool how can i customize the differences xml files and the png (to modify the icons), a part from this tool installs in the reader some difference firmware of linux o for the opposite is the same of original sony. with this tool it's posible to reinstalle with igor flahser? If i do a backup is there any risk during its use?

It installs original sony US 1.1.00.18040. There is no "replace a file" functionality provided by it at the moment.

It is still possible to update files with igorsk's flasher, the same way as before.

Here you have the file in Spanish and Catalan (my mother tongue) for the installer. I changed the autorun.xml for a test funcionality.

The installer I works fine but the copy and restore no works for me. Com you know I have the PRS + translated into Spanish (files. Js and main.xml) but if I do a backup and then install the PRS + with your installer, then no restored my PRS + (in Spanish). Is it normal or is it a mistake?



Another subject (for the future localization),

I guess you already have a copy of the Sony original firmwares French and German, but if not, here's the files with the originals main.xml.
If you want I can do the translate to the Spanish and to Catalan.

It's normal. Backup is working, but I haven't included the "restore" utility yet. (was too much for a first version) but you can do it, just replace the:

1.1.00.18040.root (Rootfs) and Fsk.img (fsk) files with whatever you want (you will also need to change *.md5 files, they must contain corresponding md5 hash) and then use expert mode.

Kartu what are the md5 files? are they create during the process backup by use igor flash or your new tools? And what are the steps to restor by use the expert mode?

it looks great. I would like to download it, but what happens if your readers language is german? Can I still do it?

You can still do it (the easiest way is using the "PRS+ Installer" which is currently being tested, just unpack the zip on SD card and follow the instructions, other way is to read on this forum how to "downgrade" to US 1.1.00.18040 version). However you'll lose German localization. If that's important for you, you should wait until 1.1 release (should come in about 1 month or so).

English.js is the only file that needs to be translated (it contains all strings). German öäüß probably have to be escaped, but if you don't know how, don't bother escaping, I'll do it (I am still figuring out how to do it automatically for Russian translation). Just do the translation.

md5 files contain md5 hash (you could use this utility to generate it under Windows):

I use them "just to be sure" that firmware wasn't corrupted.

Regarding restoring, until I'll integrate it into the installer, you could do it by replacing the following files (located in PRSPInstaller\Sony Reader\software\firmware\505\):

1.1.00.18040.root 1.1.00.18040.root.md5 - for rootfs (this is needed only if someone is using firmware version other than 1.1.00.18040)
Fsk.img Fsk.img.md5 - for fsk (/opt)

Do you use cramfks of the cygwin to unpack the img.fsk? and what program do you use to pack files as .fsk? For example, i have the differente files customize Icon, a applications like date format, and other) and i'd like to pack these files as .fsk to test the installer and to able to make by using the new installer.

Kartu, I'll have to translate without "Umlauts" anyway. I brought my laptop back from my stay in the US. So I have a typical US-Keyboard-Layout without Umlauts.

I'm curious if it is possible to call this "changeLanguage" function from within a prs+ addon?

As old-school pascal/delphi coder, I'm stumbeling with all this objects, and can't figure out how to call the function, or to call it within the right context.

Any ideas are much appreciated.

I haven't looked into it myself (besides checking DE/FR image size, which was roughly 30% bigger than US), but porkupan (aka boroda) reported that there was little to no additional value in FR/DE versions and that adding more languages just didn't work. At that time PRS+ was quite far into US firmware (and quite a lot of stuff just doesn't work if you try it with DE/FR) so that in the end it would take less time (and much less space) to "localize" US image than make PRS+ to work with FR/DE anyway.

Regarding your question,

this.LANG.setLanguage(lang);

should be the same as (see that "x-id://model" up there?):

Following the installation instructions found on Google Code appears to have put my Sony PRS-505 into an endless loading/processing loop that I am yet to figure out how to resolve. It is, for the moment, basically bricked.

Trying to reset it via Sony's Firmware installer is a no-go because the current firmware is the same as Sony's latest... so it figures everything is fine, and it does not need to update anything.

Can the internal memory be formatted via USB from Linux?
