In the '80s, "blau" was a slang exclamation among my friends and me, similar to "boom". Just sounded cool.

Have you tried replying, whilst pointing to something next to it, "Does that look like a fish to you?"....

!@#$%&* internet service providers.

Here are my choices: local/regional DSL, currently in a 1-year contract with them but that's for 8Mb service and I'm now only getting 3Mb after an actual person (finally) shows up and determines that my routine (4 times in the last 6 days, and several times before that) outages were caused by a modem on which I'd already run the diagnostic tests and it passed. Also saw fit to remove the line splitter...huh?

Other option is Comcast...Most likely go with business-class so I can get around the Fascism. Verizon won't bring fiber anywhere near IL even though their wireless footprint covers almost the entire state, AT&T UVerse is stuck in DeKalb....

Small(ish) town = no competition.

Not yet, but there is a whole new week coming. I sincerely hope, I won't have the chance though.

I can agree with a lot of that. Whenever I phone because the service is bad, or down, the first question out of their mouths is "How long is the cable from modem to the phone jack", and I reply "The same length it always is".

You know, Friday night was the first time they've ever asked me that in 14 months of being a customer. Of course he also asked me which IP addresses I use for my machines from the router which was completely irrelevant since I bypassed the router to troubleshoot.

It would be different if it was just a speed issue, and the reliability wasn't a problem. If they had blinding speed but occasional outages I might even then be more understanding. I now have neither the speed I was paying for nor the reliability; I'd say they failed on the good-faith-effort end of things and I've got a pretty good rationale for getting out of the contract since I'm simply not getting what I'm paying for.

My Dad used to assemble Heath Kit projects -- and had to call his kids over to determine the color on the resistors. He was red/green color blind.

Dear American folk,

Each English-speaking country has its own 'correct spelling' peccadilloes. Please don't tell me I 'spelled it wrong' just because I don't use US English spelling. K? I'm Australian, I use Aussie English spelling.

Just an incredibly common problem I run into I'm not implying that all citizens of the US are that ignorant... just a few who insist on correcting us foreigners
