Had a long talk with my immediate supervisor today. She got her eyes opened, turns out she had no idea what was going on with the "coworker from the seventh level of Hades" that was giving me such grief. In an interesting twist - I might end up with that girl's job, LOL.

Well, the girl has already left for another job (thank the powers-that-be), and so work has been a lot nicer for me this week.

But my supervisor doesn't want to train another girl, and I'm already trained. So, we'll see.

they'd be daft not to recognise their investment in already training you ... as long as you want the job - though ?

Next you have to convince them that they can't live without MobileRead and that they have to convince six friends each that they can't live without Kindles or MobileRead and so on. Our bid for world domination will soon be realized.

Oh, they are.

The cashiers have to get carts out of the parking lot. The employer is legally required to provide safety vests so drivers can see them at night. 6 months after that little fact was brought up, they still hadn't gotten the vests. SO I went to the other end of town and bought one for my wife; she took it in and to their amazement the store director discovered that he, too, could drive to the other end of town, especially now that someone outside the organization was paying attention.

IMO idiocy is the rule there, not the exception

The world is filled with lazy ignorant people. Sometimes you gotta grab people by the throat and scream "what the hell were you thinking?" inches from their face before they get it.

Sad truth of life. That guy's convenience was worth more to him than your wife's safety.

That's a pretty good question. I HAD the job, for about a month straight back last summer when they were short handed. It's more stressful than what I do now, but it's a lot LESS stressful than working under someone who's on a power trip. Depending on how they implement it, it could end up making me work longer shifts, too. It's kind of a toss-up.

As Chris says, the place IS daft.

I have been working for 23 years, and as a consultant I have seen quite a lot of companies in several different countries. I have never seen one that could not answer to that description.

What I'm doing right now: Trying to make the vista speech recognition software understand what I'm saying - in vain! Resorting to profanity didn't help either, as bad words are not even in the dictionary. It's no way to vent when all the computer does is ask "What did you say?" or write free interpretations of what it thinks it's hearing
Back to the keyboard then, I've had enough of "delete that" and "correct that" in one small paragraph.

Worrying. Chris had to go out of town this morning. He promised to call when he got there - he didn't. I'm assuming that means he was running late enough for his appointment that he didn't have time to call; which alone is worrying enough. Now the earliest I can expect to hear from him is an hour and a half from now - and I'm not even certain on that time frame, it could be up to three and a half hours - when he's supposed to be finished and heading home. Yeah, I'm a worrywart.

Just got back from the vet's -- got up this morning to find my baby cat with one eyelid firmly shut. Seems she got popped in the eye by the old cat (18-years old and going strong). But - only a tiny scratch and she doesn't have to wear a lampshade on her head. Do they make kitty safety goggles?
