I wasn't necessarily defending CherryPal, merely commenting that the comments had taken a decidedly nasty and personal turn.

I was also observing that once CherryPal is able to reliably produce units under the terms offered, I think they've got a pretty good potential market.

I think the current status of the situation can be addressed by a quick show of hands:

1) How many MR people have ordered one of these units?
2) How many have received them?

2.1) If you received your unit, did it meet the specs offered, what were your opinions, etc.
2.2) If you have not received your unit, did you get your refund?

Some hard data would be really helpful for everyone.

It has been nearly two months since the product was first offered.

Mel, I just wanted to note that the discussions here are not normally so contentious. Spirited, sometimes...the MR members will sometimes challenge your views and make you really think through your perspective...but this community is really beneficial to the ebook community and I have enjoyed being a member. I'd encourage you to stick around.

Perhaps Mel also did not read the entire thread. She would have found that Cherrypal had made legal threats against teleread.com and made them take down all negative posts about Cherrypal.

She might have also found that the *only* people defending Cherrypal were people who had created accounts solely for that purpose.

If she can't understand why we were defensive or on the lookout for shills, then she needs to reconsider.

One might also point out that her second post on this board also resorted to personal attacks, so she really *does* need to reconsider the impression she made on us.

If she decides to stick around and make some positive contributions, I'm certainly willing to reconsider my assessment of her.

With Kate on this one. It is very important to stand to the point that we here, on MR, will not be threatened.

We have very clearly been asked to stop even wondering about cherrypal. You for instance can't keep coming back and making quite bold remarks, I must say, regarding legal liabilities..... Are you representing them, legally I mean?

I think Cherrypal is a scam. As it has been in the UK in the past.

There you are. Sue me.

Okay, here's an accusation that has foundation-- Ebay has no listings for a completed auction with the terms "CherryPal" or "Cherry Pal" in the subject within the time covered by their archive.

Could you provide us with an item number for the auction you bought it from?

Ok - This has gone to a whole different level of insinuation and personal attack.

STOP THE BICKERING, PLEASE.

If this continues I (or another Moderator) will close this thread.

STOP ALL PERSONAL ATTACKS, PLEASE.

I urge everyone to take a deep breath and to read our POSTING GUIDELINES.

I hope you don't mean me, Don, because I have NOT MADE ONE SINGLE PERSONAL ATTACK. A personal attack is an attack on someone's person (hence the name) that is unrelated to the arguments. Examples of a personal attack :

"you only say that because you are a fat pig"

"that's what I'd expect a Jew to say"

"you are a (British slang for cigarette)"

Examples of things that are NOT a personal attack

"your post sounds like a shill"

and, very relevant

"you claim that you very recently bought this item on ebay, but ebay has no records of any recent auctions selling this item, can you explain?"

And the reply that "I'll answer your question if you agree to fill out a full confession of your wrongness, sign it in triplicate, and mail a copy to the Library of Congress" is very telling.

Velcro_SP, if you post the item number, you'll prove me wrong. No need for formal groveling on my part. And sure as hell no reason to bring "real names" into it-- which is a total red herring, after all-- your real name isn't involved, my real name isn't involved. (Of course, the difference is, if you search around my posts, you WILL find my real name-- any chance I'll get yours?)

I strongly, strongly suspect the reason you demand the naming of names is because you don't think that I'll do it, therefore I won't meet your conditions for revealing the number.

PS-- I see by checking for other key terms, Ebay's archives of old auctions go back at least to September 2009-- so for your claim "even if the auction number doesn't show up on their archive" to hold water, your purchase would have to be before September at least-- and you are on the record saying that you recieved it "a few days ago" on January 25th, (which would mean a pretty darn long time to ship.)

I'd usually post my image of a sock puppet on fire at this point. But I can't find it :/ Bah lol.

My only post to this thread.

I think most of the members would like the ability to reduce Karma based on the perceived good-neighborliness (is that a word?) of a contributor. If Karma goes negative, that poster is automatically blocked and they have to get a new ID and start over.

Some folks just cause more trouble than they are worth...

All, like I said in an earlier post, if I drop out and attacks and slurs on me continue, it's not because I concede anything. It's because I don't need the negativity. I've reached that point. I do not concede anything.

Finally, anyone reading my original comment in this thread (or my blog entry from a year ago ardeegee linked after he was apparently "researching" me, which is unwelcome) will find that they are balanced commentary on Cherrypal's product and conduct. I talked about the good and the bad.
See, when I'm wrong, I can say that I'm wrong-- I thought the entry was from 2010, not 2009.

As for "researching" you, whether something is "welcome' or not is utterly irrelevant-- what is out there is out there. (And I was doing it for my earlier point on the inability to "libel" an anonymous nickname on a web forum, simply to see if your nick tied to your real name somewhere, just to prove a point.)
