Nice bike! I'm bringing mine from Illinois to Reading this spring. The boring books are a LOT more exciting if you try to read them while riding.

That's pretty brave too, depending on the model and year you have.

I don't know about that. I have a '08 Tundra that can end up with a stuck accelerator.

I tried to read a book by one of our contributors here, but found it to be absolutely horrible in execution. (No pun intended.)

Diplomacy (and being a Moderator here), forbids me in naming this horrible novel. All I can say is this: AVOID IT BY ALL MEANS.

The next best thing I can do is to tell you to beware (and be wary of) a writer of occult/horror fiction who frequently sells the book for less than retail. (Of course, the retail is a jacked-up price, anyway.) The rest you'll have to figure out for yourself. There's a lot of self-published trash being circulated now, and readers must be careful. There's also a lot of self-published gems being published, and readers must be just as careful in deciding what to read in that area.

Be aware....or be afraid, but not because it's supposed to be a horror novel....

Dr. Drib speaks the truth.

I, too, have also tried to read a book from a contributor to MR. I'm too gallant to name the novel or author. All I'll say is that paragraphs are your friend and swallowing a thesaurus doesn't make for a good read. Also proofread and then proofread again. Then give your novel to someone else and gt them to proofread it.

There are some good self published works but they are outweighed by the bad. Publishers do make great gatekeepers sometimes.

After I've started to write a little (fan fiction and only for the fun of it), I've learned so much about good - and bad - writing, that my patience with mediocre writing has diminished greatly, and I now have much more time for good writing (which I also appreciate much more). Most of the self-published I've sampled hasn't been worth my time. The little I've liked I felt could improve with editing. Good editing is a craft that's almost as valuable as good writing.

The entire first book is basically about how she ends up married to this young innocent highlander who ends up trading a one night stand with the Evil Gay(!) Englishman in order to save her sorry ass. I mean - come on! Reality needed here!! He ends up being poor dutiful self-sacrificing husband cause she's Miss Time Travelling Thang.
The later books also seem to change the poor guy's profession every book, and have his time-travelling wife drop in on him and he drops his current relationship to take up with her again, cause she's his "One True Love" (need a vomiting smiley to insert here).
(END SPOILER)
Overall, the whole series not only draaags on, but the plot line is ridiculous unless you are an over emotional naive teen! (Twilight fans would probably love it!)
I just could not get past Outlander, I read it because a then GF wanted me to and I did. It was a chore to read such a badly written bunch of nonsense. The time traveling was silly and the stereo typical Jamie was absurd. Once she was back in the Highlands, it went downhill from there.
