Thanks, Pauli. You know that bezel color effect is amazing. My senior editor saw the IREX and though it was absolutely the best, and most unreal (paper-like) among eInk displays (and we have quite a few to compare it with). She reads only occasionally using ebook readers.

I read daily and am accustomed to scrutinizing the display and text and saw no real difference between the IREX, Kindle 2, old Sony 505 and the nook. In fact, the nook, using the Amasis font (nice font!) actually is bolder and creates a sense of greater contrast. Once I gave her both side by side, she decided the nook actually looked better. That is, until I changed to another font on the nook. Equally impressive how much of a diff the font makes.

The case color does seem to really enhance the reading experience. My only niggle so far with the device is that I wish the fonts were just a touch bolder, not much, just a little. Other than that, I'm really enjoying it so far and I feel iRex did a really great job on this device. I'll look forward to dictionary support in hopefully the not to distant future.

I concur that a slightly bolder font would be perfect. Is there no way to hack one onto the IREX?

There was on the iLiad, but I'm not sure about the DR1000. I'm betting it won't be too long before someone figures out how to do it. I actually got my conversion process with Calibre dialed in better last night (I typically side load content) for the font size I like and now find it about perfect. Slightly bolder would still be nice, but it's pretty much on par with any other reader I've used at this point. Screen, form factor and speed continue to impress the heck out of me and battery life looks like it will be very good as well.

Amasis seems to be a commercial font, maybe museo could be better see comments in http://www.sitepoint.com/blogs/2009/...if-slab-fonts/

If you're using PDFs, you should be able to embed any font that you want. I don't know much about ePub yet, but I assume (like Mobipocket on the iLiad) it relies on whatever font comes installed with the device.

In Starlicy's second youtube video (post here), she embeds fonts into an ePub document using a program called ePub Builder. Check at the 8 minute mark. Of course, it's time consuming just to add a better looking font to all your documents and it will make each document 10-20 times larger. A centralized font option would be much better, especially with an option to override the default font on a per-document basis.
