I think you're on to something. That might explain why China is doing so poorly too since most inhabitants live in the south.

let's not forget the numbers of mountains in the equation.

So the formula should be something like this:

Number of medals relative to the population of the country relative to the amount of snow per year relative to opportunity to go downhill.

I'll let someone else figure out how much each aspect should count.

But what would we possibly do with all the sparetime, if we didn't watch sports.

Curling is so comfortably mindnumbing.

"sparetime" ? i think i have forgotten what this word means.

(curling is another of those sports that seems far too absurd to be actually real, if you ask me. i actually discovered it in an episode of the canadian series "corner gas" and seriously thought they had made it up as a joke. )

It's really a weird sport. Since Denmark is horrible at winter sports (as well). Curling got some hype years back because of a bronze medal by the women team.

A friend of mine tried to explain how it "actually was a really interesting and tactically exciting sport. Chess on Ice".

It's really not a topic he feels the need to bring up today.

It only snows occasionally, and our highest "mountain" is like 150 metres, so there isn't anywhere with snow permanently.

And as for the cold, we are right now in the ice winter to end all ice winters according to the media. In reality it means that for the past two months it's been between 0 and -10 degrees celsius (predominantly between 0 and -5 degrees).

But we truly have made some impact on the winter olympics. Our (half norwegian) contestant in ski shooting ended 3. last and last in the two events I think he participated in. And our womens curling team just lost 11-1 to China today.

Snowboarding? seriously? have you been under a rock? Snowboarders have been the bane of my existence as an instructor. they leave skid marks on my students

Sadly the video is not available for international viewers. But the sentence "it only snows in Denmark every tenth year" as a teaser to the video might be a bit misleading after all. Most years we do get a bit of snow.

Anyways please train some more - even if they are really bad... We can only get better.

I'm sorry about that! anyway, it's a 16 year old girl, Dutch citizen, born in Japan, and living and going to school here in Washington State (every other word is "awesome"). I'm guessin' her folks are diplomats, they never did say. I listened to the story again, to try to catch her name but didn't get it, sorry.

if it helps any, I had a Dutch exchange student about 10 years ago that became an incredibly good skier while she was here! I tried at least!
