Inside the plastic, there's more metal to the frame. But the end result is the same: the casing weighs more than the guts. Making it bigger will require more plastic or more weight.

I believe the back has to be plastic, because of wireless

Yep metal would interfere with the wireless.

The 900 is almost exactly the size of a paperback. For me, it would be less natural to be an inch wider - it would feel less like reading a "normal" book, because the screen would look almost square.

So you are going to have it on and reading that entire time?

Just add in an overnight stop in a country for which you don't have the correct power adapter, and you've got the necessary case. For example, on my recent trip to India, I wound up spending the night at a hotel near Charles de Gaul airport because I missed my connecting flight. Thus, I got to Bangalore 48 hours after leaving Pittsburgh (instead of the scheduled 24).

I had US power adapters with me. I had both styles of Indian plug adapters. But I didn't have anything I could use to plug in at the hotel in France! So, by the time I got to Bangalore I'd completely run through the charge on my PRS-700. That represents about two solid days of reading (12 hours or more, each), or 6 long-ish novels. A device that only goes 12 hours between charges would have run out long before.

Shorter battery life really would be a problem. For me, anyway.

I have a PRS-505 and would upgrade to a PRS-600 if it weren't for the reflective and low-contrast screen. If Sony came out with a version of the 600 that had a screen that looked as good as the 505, and had wifi for syncing and better firmware for displaying epub books, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

Longer battery life if better, of course

Longer battery life if better, of course. Things may happen. sometime, we have to compromise between reading time and other things, like wireless, reactive screen...

I would be, or close to it. I'll happily read 14 hours straight if I've got the leisure time for it, and "stuck on a plane" is time I can't do much else with. (Well. If I spent any time on planes. Which I don't anymore; the "security" has gotten too psychotic. If I need to visit other parts of the US, I'll drive or take a train; if I need to visit Europe, I'll find a boat.)

Pretty much, I find I have seen most of the movies and I cannot sleep on the plane. I used to have a carry bag just with books, now the ereader and 1 book for take-off and landing.

You get two weeks on a charge with your PRS-600? I get about 7-8 days with mine! Do you shut yours down when you're not using it?
