Well, the post was reported, so I had a look, as was my moderator's duty. (After all, we don't want to ban people unless we are sure that they are spammers, shills, sockpuppets etc.)
Fortunately, I've got a sense of humour.

im just a joker... notice my e-reader device? i dont have one. i joined this forum just for this thread... i am curious about those really cheap netbooks that are 1/3 of the cost of my gateway netbook. the first link... i wasnt sure if anyone got one of them 100 dollar netbooks... not sure how they would run with ubuntu netbook remix or if they ran better with other linux distros.. im happy for this thread because i wont buy anything from cherrypal. i was wondering if something was more reputable in the 100 dollar netbook club. it'd be nice trying out one of these really cheap netbooks and seeing how i could optimise them even better to get the most out of them.

Hm, I may want to visit Cherrypal myself. Are they at Palo Alto address on the website? I live in Oakland; a trip to the south bay wouldn't be difficult to arrange.
This address is residential. Almost across from my bank (C P is on side street)

Smile Satisfied Cherrypal Customer and Bing Owner

Wow, I am sorry to hear of your issues with Cherrypal.

I bought and received the $99 Africa, however, exchanged it for the Bing. I liked the Africa, however, I wanted Windows XP. The Africa was great to surf the web and email, but I ended up needing more for myself and my daughter, who wants to use it too. The Africa runs on Windows CE, so is limited.

From the beginning, customer service was helpful answering all my questions about the company and products. Delivery of product was slow at first, apparently because of the high order volume.

I didn’t need a lot of bells and whistles that some laptops have, however, the Bing is awesome and is certainly competitive with higher priced laptops.

It runs on Windows XP and can do everything my desktop PC does at home, but, the cool thing is, I get to take it with me wherever I go because it's super-slim, light and WiFi compatible. I love it. And, it's energy efficient with a small carbon footprint…which is one of the main reasons I was interested in Cherrypal in the first place.

I highly recommend the Bing.

My husband has a top-end laptop and this one does as much except for a DVD drive.

How are you able to compare a $389.00 Bing with a $99.00 Cherrypal Africa?

So, two people have joined just to say nice things about Cherrypal.
Why am I just a bit suspicious?

Mel47's post certainly reads like marketing copy, doesn't it?

"Small carbon footprint?" How do you know?

Possibly, but according to the IP address Mel47 is in St. Louis, MO. I would say not.

Two weeks ago, the website said the Africa ran WinXP--all the people who bought it last year were told they were getting a WinXP machine, not WinCE.

Wow, you guys are cynical aren't you...

I know of "carbon footprint" because I am trying to be "green." Both my husband and I are looking for small ways we can reduce our carbon footprint. That is why when my husband brought home the article on Cherrypal, I was interested.

I am 47-years-old and was laid off, for the second time, from my job. So, I decided to go back to school and become a teacher. I have one more exam to take before I get my certificate. I wanted a laptop so I could study anywhere, but I didn't want to spend tons of money.

Anyway, I digress...like with anything I buy over the internet, I do my research, good and bad, and then make an informed decision whether to buy. Yes, I read on Cherrypal's website that their computer has a "small carbon footprint," but I already knew that from the article I read and believe it or not, I already knew what a "carbon footprint" was. If you don't know what a "carbon footprint" is, then you've been living under a rock.

Anyway, I knew of your website, I found it when doing my research, and all I wanted to do was pass on my experience. I do not work for Cherrypal, which is what you were insinuating from your "sounds like marketing copy" to me. And, I wasn't trying to compare anything...certainly not the Africa to the Bing...just telling my experience.

Like my husband, you seem a little chauvanist when a woman talks about the envirnoment. My husband gives me grief too; like guys are the only ones who can understand the envirnoment. I read "Gorgeously Green," a few years ago and he poked endless fun at me.

Similarly, in a very guy-sort-of-way, my husband told me to buy a computer at Best Buy; but I decided to give Cherrypal a try because I liked their "one in every lap" approach to computers, and I don't need a DVD drive, etc. Oh, I'm sorry, does that sound too marketing oriented for you--but it's the truth. In today's world every person should have an affordable computer.

For me, however, the best "green" aspect to the Cherrypal is the price. I've had mine for a few weeks and love it.

I'm a woman. I would think the avatar with the feminine profile and the name 'Kate' would have been a dead giveaway.

It still reads like marketing copy. Even your defense of the statement comes from Cherrypal's marketing copy.

I'm sorry your husband is such a 'chauvanist', but that doesn't mean that everyone who disagrees with you, or points out that you only have two posts on this board - both in defense of Cherrypal - is.

Maybe you're not a shill, but I'm certainly going to give more weight to the experiences of long-time posters than I am to yours.
