This is a quote from an email from an IREX reseller in the UK today. Don't know if he knows something or is just being over cautious.

Probably just speculating. I don't think iRex has ever charged for a firmware update before. I would assume they will either decide to include it for the device or not. I don't think they'll maintain it as a feature that you need to pay extra to enable.

Can't wait for someone to actually get this thing so we can see how the Barnes & Noble store looks like. Que has their own e-store that sits between the reader and BN for the purpose of re-formatting the output of the BN store to look great on the Que. I believe the Nook uses a native app to present the BN store. When we first saw the BN store on the DR800SG, it was at their 09/2009 unveiling and it was basically a web browser opened to their BN mobile store. In other words, scrollbars, tiny, and ugly.

Will also be curious if the browser can be made to browse web pages, like wikipedia.

Yeah, that would be the good news about doing it that way. The browser might be usable for other things besides B&N.

I thought when this day came I would be clicking on that buy button, but without a dictionary, annotation and even minimal pdf zoom I cannot justify it. If they think these are premium/professional features, then they need to take a closer look at their competition.

In regards to pdf zoom, at the minimum it should crop the white-space and fit to width so that when you change to landscape it would be zoomed in.

iRex told us they were waiting for BestBuy availability before sending out review units (don't ask me why). Now that it's available on BB, I'm hoping we'll have a review and videos up on MobileTechReview early next week. I'll do detailed comparisons with my Kindle DX and Sony Reader Daily Edition.

I see Irex has put the link to Best Buy back on their website and they have put the press release back as well.

Won't be much to compare with the Sony without annotation ability, dictionary, and pdf zoom. Though I'm sure the screen will be more "readable".

I think I'm going to wait until they have it in stores. According to the launch announcement, it will be showing up in a "phased" launch in stores soon. I really do want to try it first.

Ordered today, the cart said the eReader will ship with 1 -2 days, arrival at home, 2/23 - 3/3. Just got an email from Best Buy saying that the item is backordered and that it will ship within 1 to 2 weeks. They'll ship earlier if able. The website still says the reader will ship in 1 -2 days, so the the saga continues! What's up?

BestBuy doesn't have the best system. Apparently the darned thing is in stock and shipping. I called and asked and the rep said she had no idea why backorder emails had gone out. Mine shipped today. Couldn't wait any longer for IREX to get us a review unit!

Several of the ones that said backordered yesterday, were again saying "order in process" this morning. Probably just a weird thing in BB's system.

Just double checked mine, it is saying "Shipped" now.
