I have The Stand in HBook. The TV addaptation was well done. I have started a book bundle deal from Kathy Reichs, not bad... I used to like Patricia Cornwell's Scarpetta books but the characters turned into awful people

I always used to buy only at Fictionwise because of the rebates but now I am not doing that as much. Good to know about the comparison site.

Now I am currently reading Ms. Midshipwoman Harrington which is a novella by David Webber as part of the book Changer of Worlds.

Thi sis the first story (in timeline order) that we get to see Honor Harrington. And it does actually make sense to read the Honorverse in timeline order. I read On Basilisk Station first and found a lot I missed out on by not knowing things I do now based on timeline reading.

I agree with you, and especially short story collections by literary writers.

Also, I just wish more short story collections were being supported by major publishers.

Yep, I pretty much have to rely on those annual anthologies the the few other collections (anthologies or know authors) each year. I've still not bought the T.C. Boyle and they raised the price back up at Amazon....

I did notice that "Last Night in Twisted River" showed up at my library for ebook checkout a couple of days ago.

Also fun. Starts with a good story about well-known pulp hero (although he's never actually named, it's obvious which one). Ends with a good time-travel story that's not really about time travel. I even liked one of the poems ("Our Canine Defense Team") - perhaps because it was more a short-short than a poem...

Another collection of short pieces now, Federations edited by John Joseph Adams. It has something by Lois McMaster Bujold in it, which will be good to re-read, as I think it must be one of the reprints in the volume, not one of the original stories.

A nice multi-format ebook from Fictionwise with no DRM applied.

I'm taking a time-out from James Patterson. Currently busy with 'Night Watch' by Terry Pratchett.

I saved this long Esquire interview with Roger Ebert as HTML, and sent it to my reader... after that, who knows?

I just finished Connie Willis' Blackout. It's a great book but it's only part one of the story. The conclusion, All Clear, will not be published until this fall.

Didn't know that. I am sorry I bought it now; if I had known that, I wouldn't have.
