PDF reading on PPro

Hello Everyone,

So I am going to receive my first eReader soon
I have lots of PDF ebooks that I would like to read on the PPro.
From what I have read I believe I can change PDF into other formats that the PPro can handle better?
I have all sorts of PDF from ones with nearly text only to photography ones with lots of pictures. I am only planning to read those with little photos and mostly texts.
Now the question is what format should I convert those PDF into and with what program?
Thank you all!

mellow_kitty,

I would use ePub format if it was me, this is my favorite format.

Conversion program Calibre is the one to use. Just so you know, there is also a Calibre forum here at MobileRead. If you have any problems with conversion just ask here in Astak or at Calibre.

ePUB is good but actually PPro reads PDF pretty well depending on the book so you might just want to wait and see. It has two different ways to read PDF files. ADE reflows the text while xpdf zooms this image.

Thank you for the replies.

I guess I will try it out first and use ePub if the PDF is not so good..

Good to know they can handle PDF pretty well, it was one of the main reasons why I chose PPro!

Dear Mellow Kitty:

Actually, the PDF that the Pocket PRO has is Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) just like the EPUB. The ADE PDF is reflowable... meaning it will resize to fit the screen. Plus, the Pocket PRO has 8 level gray scale for really great illustrations. PDF is not a problem format for the Pocket PRO. I think you will find the PDF on the Pocket PRO will be just fine for your needs.

Great idea, mellow_kitty. The reader does handle PDF very well.

It is good to experience the different formats for yourself. This way you get more acquainted with what suits you. The PEZ does work well with a variety of formats, admittedly some better than others IMHO. Most important of all is just to enjoy your reading.....the Pocket Pro way!

For good PDFs you can run it through Mobipocket creator and that will give you a good PDF... I thnk it runs natively quite well on the PP. Calibre is also good except if you try to convert a PDF to another format..I had problems in that regard.

So the Ppro has finally arrived yesterday!
I was charged additional 30$ for tax
After a night of use, I must say this device is amazing.
It reads pdf very well, text is clear and crisp.
The only thing that really needs improvement is the "resedue" left on the screen after a page change. It is a problem with e-ink I guess.
Does change font work on pdfs? Things looked the same after I changed font.
Anyone know if there is a way to delete some "titles" (like "Restore_PC" Digital Editions") on the SD/internal page?

Dear Mellow Kitty:

I am so happy that it arrived and you found it amazing. That is what is important to me. I am sorry that you got taxed.

The way it was explained to me, and others on here may know a lot better, a PDF is like a picture. You can reflow the picutre to fit the screen; but pictures cannot be changed. So, I would think you cannot change font type on a PDF... where you easily can with EPUB.

Titles can be deleted on the computer. There is no way (yet) to delete files or titles on the device itself.

We have received final approval from Google for our new surprise and expect that by Thursday or Friday you will find a new website to download both the latest titles and free eBooks for FREE (many sites charge for what should be free). I still cannot comment much further... but a great new website is coming and it is just receiving final cosmetic changes now.

The problem with Google is that what they say is free is not always free.

Look to the left. That's the cover of a book I wrote in 1994. Why it is still in print all these years I have no idea. But I ain't complaining. The book is still under contract, still being marketed, still be sold, and I am still getting royalties.

And Google books has it on their site for free.

The actual copyright of the book belongs to ME. But never did Google ask me if they could post it. This is the kind of thing I would excepted from one of those torrent sites. I expected more from Google.
