Official press release posted today on irexreader.com announcing availability of the DR800SG through Best Buy online and announcing staged store availability over the coming months.

The Best Buy website still shows it as coming soon, but hopefully that means it will be shipping in the next couple of days.

The wacom stylus is one of the differences between the $449 version that was originally on their site vs the $399 one that is on there now.

It's interesting that the manual they submitted to the FCC (somebody posted a link to it earlier) does include a section on the dictionary. I assume this is another "adding later" feature.

As far as the weight, I don't know. The two numbers being different on that old page is probably just a typo. Both are higher than the number on there now... maybe that's due to a different/heavier cover with the $449 version?

I'm curious if the U.S. market will get this pen, as shown on the irex reader website (http://www.irexreader.com):

or this pen, as shown on the main irex website and what DR800S users received. I think this pen looks better than the one above. The above one looks very skinny and looks very much like the pen that comes with the iliad.

The basic stylus is probably what comes with the $399 DR800SG. The advanced stylus is probably what comes with the $449 DR800SG. They've said that one of the differences with the $449 version will be a better stylus.

Assuming, of course, that there really are going to be two versions. BB has only listed one or the other, not both at the same time.

At $399 it will probably come with the iLiad stylus. Since the only feature that really needs it at this point is if you want to click around the menus I don't really care. I might feel different if/when annotations are available, but for now I actually prefer the smaller stylus since I will probably custom make a case and it will take up less room. If the irexreader site is accurate, we'll know one way or the other in a few days.

If this is the case, then DR800S users got a bullet point in their favor.

At a much higher price. The higher end version of the US DR800SG, with the advanced stylus, is cheaper than the European DR800S.

I'd probably expect Best Buy to start selling tomorrow at the earliest. I have a strong feeling that the launch date wasn't 100% ready on both sides.

I read elsewhere (not sure if it was on here or iRex's site) that someone said they called BB today, and the BB person said they update their inventory status on Monday's, so it likely wouldn't show up on the website until tomorrow.

Assuming, of course, that the 2/15 date was ever "real". It was basically just a rumor anyway.

Not exactly a rumor now when iRex is claiming today is the day of availability.

That's what I posted on the Irex boards earlier today. She indicated the storms of the past week are so have caused some problems with their normal update cycle as well. We'll just have to wait and see.

If it's going to be available "any day" now, why is it not listed as backordered (1 - 2 weeks delivery) instead of coming soon?

Good question. When the original posting went up back in October I believe it was showing as backordered, but ever since the new one went up it has just shown coming soon. I have to believe it's close since iRex released a press announcement today indicating immediate availability. They certainly have their issues as a company, but I don't think they would release a bogus press announcement.
