Not so much a rant as information.

My Uncle passed away about 10 minutes ago (just got the phone call from my Father). His name was Joseph Lyon and he was 83. He loved Humphrey Bogart movies, cooking, and he wore a white Fedora hat almost every day I ever saw him in my life. Through his actions he taught me that whoever you are is fine, even if that whoever happens to be eccentric.

Farewell Uncle Joe and thanks for all the times we sat around talking about old films, especially your favourite, The Treasure of the Sierra Madre. You were loved and you will be missed.

i'm so sorry moejoe. i never know what words to say in such situations, but i'm thinking of you with all my heart. and maybe you can take comfort knowing your uncle was loved while he was here ; that is an incomparable treasure in life. and here is a big virtual hug ; i wish i could give you a real one.

No, no, the LHC cannot do it, it can only produce a time-shift observation when a black-hole gravitational WAVE impinges simultaneously with a LHC experiment.

Today was Things Fall Off of Shelves and Hit Fledchen in the Face Day. The cinnamon rolls and packages of foam cups were merely annoying. The 10-pound box of frozen hot dogs hurt. Fortunately, I appear to have a sturdy chin.

Thanks, I've marked that in my calendar. For some reason they seem to have missed that particular day off and instead filled it with rubbish like Shrove Tuesday, St. George's Day and so on.

I can hardly wait for February 15th next year. Perhaps we could all come over and watch
