Reader Library

I bought the 900 today. I was excited to get home to start reading once I got the reader library downloaded. I was able to download the software but it will not open. I downloaded the software by connecting the reader to my PC. I am running Windows Vista Home Premium. When I click on the reader library icon it says "reader library has stopped working".

Glad to see you finally made a decision to go with the 900. Until others with Vista experience chime in I would suggest uninstalling the software and downloading the Reader Library from the Sony Reader Store: http://ebookstore.sony.com/download/

Don't forget to install Adobe Digital Editions first:

Hello. New here, but I actually know the answer to this question because it happened to me today. You need to make sure that Reader Library is exempt from Data Execution Prevention. It is a Vista protection to prevent corruption of files, but it messes some software up. If you go to Sony online support there is a detailed explanation for how to add Reader Library to the list of programs exempted. In a nutshell it is
Control Panel>System>Tasks>Advanced system settings>performance>DEP

Thanks Scion and BadgerMack!! I forgot to download ADE. Also, I just found the Sony support page about DEP. That did the trick.

I'm discovering that the reader library will not start if it chokes on a file that I import. I have been recently trying to import a book that I've written from rtf, and the reader stops working every time I try to import. In order to get the reader library to start again, I have to delete the file.

Bottom line is that people here will suggest using calibre instead, and that is what I'd suggest is well. I think it's only a matter of time before you get frustrated with the library program in any case... Good luck!

You don't need to install ADE in the US, FYI.

I wish Reader would place a library book in the Borrowed collection instead of the Purchased collection. I would think they could key off the URL and if it includes overdrive...

That's interesting...my library books aren't placed in the "Purchased" collection automatically. When I drag the borrowed book to my Reader it's not assigned a collection. I manually drag it from "Books" to the "Library Books" collection I created.

Yeah, when I use ADE to download any book and then drag and drop it just goes into teh all inclusive Books collection and I then sort them out. But used Reader to download from my library this morning following lilac-jive's post regarding not needing ADE in the US. Because I thought you did. Now I know you don't.

I apologize...I'm still off the mark. I don't use ADE (Mac) for library books because it doesn't recognize my Reader. They auto open in the Reader Library and then I import them and move them to the Reader ("Books"). They aren't auto placed in the "Purchased" collection as yours are.
