I like cars. You like cars? Of course you like cars. Say you've been cooped up all winter, and suddenly nature decides to drop THE perfect 75F day and you get a ride in...erm...a Solstice? Ferrari F430? Whatever. Anyway, you anticipate the day more and more as it gets closer, and when you finally get in the car and start it up, it's a great feeling. But it doesn't end there, right? Of course not, that's just the beginning; next is the ride, and it's not THE best part, but it's part of a greater package, and you don't want it to ever end.

It's a journey, not a destination.

By the time Shel and I got married, we'd already been through a lot, and had half a country separating us for the majority of it. At the wedding, as the Justice of the Peace pronounced us husband and wife, I looked at Shel and said, "We finally did it." The JP looked right at me without missing a beat and said, "No, Chris, this is just the beginning."

You get what I'm trying to say?

Oh, I get it all right, the problem is; I don't drive a car and don't have a license, nor do I want either. Also, I find marriage ludicrous at best (no offence to those who vest their time, energy and hope into that particular institution) and offensive at worst. Plus, some of us have to make the journey alone, that's just how it is.

Yes; that seems to me the logic of the situation --- if love is selfless.

Not a 'perfect being' - just a better one.

The alterrnative seems to be I find the person of my dreams; whose happiness is the most important thing in my life; and I say to them that they are the moon and the stars, the oceans depths and mountain heights to me - and that, despite all that, I reckon I'm the best they deserve and they couldn't do any better.

No offense taken; phenomshel and I are happy together.

This is completely illogical. If your premise is that anyone who falls in love with someone is necessarily not good enough for them, how will "letting them go" will make things better? If they find someone else who loves them, this person will, by your premise, not be good enough for them. So they will have traded one unsatisfying love for another. Duh.

There is an amount of frustration in everything in life, and I don't see why love should be different. On the contrary, given the totally unrealistic demands we make of love, frustration is inevitable. Of course you can always spend your life looking for perfection, and never finding it. Or you can accept your frustration as a part of life and just live it.

Easier said than done perhaps, but better than making a philosophy of your low self-esteem. Sorry

I wasn't trying to philosophise my low self-esteem . I was writing in the first person because I didn't want to come across as dissing other people.

It's the paradox I find interesting, rather than the 'love' aspect per se.

I know that, and that's why it doesn't make sense.

I don't see a paradox, sorry, just a completely illogical reasoning.

Take any person A in love with any person B.

Premise: person A is not good enough for person B, which is another way of saying nobody is ever good enough for anybody else.

Conclusion: person A should kick out person B so that they can hook up with person C, who will not be good enough for them (see premise).

Explain again how that is selfless?

I haven't read the book. The movie I have seen and think it was rather good; time travel is usually an interesting topic in general to me. It is rather sad but definitely still an interesting movie that is well worth watching.

This will keep me busy! Wow, that is a lot of time. Much more than I had imagined. The results really pay off though; it is evident you put a lot of care, creativity and dedication into these masterpieces. Thanks.

I'm watching some WW2 era Disney cartoons. Amazed, though not surprised by all the propaganda and seeming racism.

Sounds good to me

The sun was shining this morning! But don't worry, everything is back to normal now.

I went to a gardening shop and bought tomato seeds and some earth, which I put in three jam jars in my kitchen. Now I just have to wait and hope something comes out. That feels a bit anticlimactic But I can still agonize over how often I should water them, and how much water is too much, so there is some fun ahead until the whole thing goes into the waste bin, as it most probably will.

I wonder if I should try dancing nekked in the moonlight in front of my jam jars. When is the next full moon? And would the neighbors like that?
