Dead Run by Erica Spindler

Quote:
"I'm in trouble, Liz. I've uncovered something.... They're watching...." That panicked message on her answering machine is the last time Liz Ames hears from her sister Rachel, pastor of Paradise Christian Church in Key West, Florida. Compelled to uncover the truth about her sister's disappearance, she heads to Key West. Within hours of her arrival a successful banker jumps to his death. Then a teenage girl whom Rachel was counseling is found brutally murdered. The ritualistic style of the killing is hauntingly similar to that used by the notorious "New Testament" serial killer--now on death row. Could the teen's murder be related to Rachel's disappearance? Is a copycat killer at work? And why do the police refuse to help? For answers, Liz turns to Rick Wells, a former Miami cop who worked the fringes of the "New Testament" investigation. Together they peel away layers of deception to reveal a terrifying adversary--and the unspeakable evil at the heart of this island paradise.
NO GEOGRAPHIC RESTRICTIONS!

Like all of Erica's books, it a great read. Or it would be if I didn't keep falling asleep while I'm reading it, which has nothing to do with the story and everything to do with my tiredness levels.

a book by Diana Gabaldon named 'Outlander'. It was listed in SciFi, but I find it to be more of an historical fantasy novel.

I can tell you the Outlander series is fantastic! Do find her others and try to read them in order. I agree they should be listed under historical fantasy.

Recently finished:

Dog on It by Spencer Quinn - very enjoyable read as a dog lover/owner. The author seemed to get into the head of a dog really well. Recommended, now debating whether to purchase the sequel as it has 100% rebate at Fictionwise currently. Hmmmmm...

Just After Sunset: Stories by Stephen King - Hadn't read Stephen King in years and was looking to try out some short stories. Had some decent stories in it. I was trying to work myself up to Under the Dome at ~2000 epages. Yikes! Still trying to work up to it.

Currently reading:

The Kill Clause by Gregg Hurwitz - So far(about 1/2 to 2/3 in) it has been a great read and I look forward to the others in the series now.

Not sure what's up next yet, maybe Under the Dome. :-)

I remember really enjoying that, although my memory of the book itself is a little hazy now. I guess that means it's time for a re-read!

Alas, no sample. I have so much to read right now, even for 0.99 I can't justify a new buy without a sample...

I just figured out how to read mobi-formatted library books on the Kindle so I have a ton of new stuff. Reading 'Hardball' by Sara Paretsky right now...

Yeah Vicki pointed that out last time I recommended the books. I'm not sure why the author isn't offering a sample. I never do samples, but I know many do rely on them.

It's not monarchy related, but you could try "South!" by Ernest Shackleton. It's about their ill-fated trip to one of the poles, I forget which. I believe Patricia or Madame Broshinka uploaded it at my request. I haven't read it yet though, but now that I'm in a snow mood maybe I'll give it a whirl.

Currently halfway through "A is for Alibi by Sue Grafton" that I picked up in the recent 100% rebate sale on Fictionwise.

Can't really say that I like it very much. It's pretty slow reading and the author seems to want to describe everything, including people's fashion sense, in minute details. Not to mention the protagonist's obsession with jogging and telling you multiple times how painful, but good it is. Oh, and most everything seems to happen at 06:00 for some strange reason...

The Other Hollywood by Legs McNeil

"The Other Hollywood: The Uncensored Oral History of the Porn Industry". I wanted to read something epic and accessible, something entertaining. I'd thought about giving Gone With the Wind a shot and I might go back to it later but I don't know. Those fake slave dialects were getting on my nerves. So I'm reading McNeil's history of the porn industry instead. It's epic like Gone With the Wind but epic in a different way, maybe. The ideals aren't as noble.

I liked McNeil's oral history of punk rock, Please Kill Me and The Other Hollywood was something I'd wanted to read for awhile. I'd forgotten about it until I came across it the other night listed in Kindle's catalogue.
