The real problem come from the Netronix/Pocketbook device for
- Recognition of the device
- Non ejecting device.

Bookeen had this problem with older firmware, and was corrected in the newer firmware.

I guess most developers focus on making it Windows compatible, and don't care much about Mac / Linux compatibility as long as it can be connected to the computer.

Although I'm surprised this problem is still appearing in so many devices - as I said I had it with the BeBook (Hanlin V3) and now the PB360. I wonder of Sony or Kindle have a similar problem with Macs?

I have the exact same setup and I can't see the PB on mine either. Very disappointed. Luckily I have a windoze computer too and use that for those rare times I need to see the device. If all you need to do is put books on your memory card, then use a card reader (easier to do anyway I think).

Yar, do you have 10.6 on your iMac? I wonder if the newer OS sees it but not our old Tigers. I think I'll be asking for 10.6 upgrade for my BD in April... Hopefully that solves it.

I run Leopard (10.5.8) and have no problems recognising BeBook or PB360. I only have the eject "issue" but use my process above to clean then unmount the device.

I have never had a problem with the device being recognised on Leopard - I would suggest there may be a device issue is this is the case? In fact, my BeBook was more flakey on Windows than Mac OS X, and would sometimes take forever to get recognised then not mount.

PB 360 works just fine on my work computer (a PC). It will have to do for now until I upgrade by OS or my computer. Thanks everyone.

My iRiver Story (firmware 1.61) also remounts itself after eject. I usually unplug it right after the volume icons disappear from the desktop.

Yeah I used to do that with the BeBook at first, and occaissionally wouldn;t be quick enough and get the "Device Removal" errorif you don't eject properly. It never caused a problem with my BeBook, but I guess you could corrupt some data on there doing that. Better to use one of the safe methods (Disk Utility or command line umount).

I wrote an AppleScript for unmounting my reader so it does not reappear. I posted it in the german subforum already but thought someone might want to try it here:
Code:
(*
Script for unmounting reappearing eBook reader volumes
written for mobileread forums, © 2010 ischeriad
*)

set VolumeName to "STORY"

tell application "Finder"
if (exists the disk VolumeName) then
		set MountPoint to do shell script "diskutil info '" & VolumeName & "' | sed -n 's/.*Mount Point[^/]*//p'"
		do shell script "dot_clean -n '" & MountPoint & "' && diskutil unmount '" & MountPoint & "'"
	end if
end tell
Replace the VolumeName (here STORY) with the actual volume name of your device. Open Utilities/AppleScript Editor.app and save the script to ~/Library/Scripts. When you enable the Script menu in AppleScript Editor, you can access the script directly from the menu bar.

I appreciate feedback on the script, it works with my iRiver Story.

I'm a little surprised about this. 10.4 = Tiger, right? And these eBook devices should just appear as mass memory storage devices (like a USB stick). I never had a problem mounting any device in Tiger.

Perhaps if you set to device to automatically link to the PC when you connect a USB? I have mine ask, because sometimes I don't want to mount it, but perhaps in the device settings if you choose to always connect it will do it? (Although I'm guessng you've probably tried this already?).

This is not a Tiger/SnowLeopard bug, but a device bug.

My Cybook Gen3 does eject properly and doesn't remount after being ejected. My PocketBook 301+ ejects but then remounts again. Both are Netronix. I agree with Godzil it's something with the PB firmware but not a serious problem.

If I unmount the PB volume instead of ejecting the device it works. I understand that even the unmount isn't necessary but I'm not going to take the chance.
