I did. If the last sentence will get me criticised, I won't use it though. Your choice.

What I said was how do you know that the Apple DRM wont be as open or even MORE open than ADE?

Lets say the apple DRM allows authorisation of 10 devices from any manafacturer that signs up for free to get access to the software AND that it allows lending of books for up to 30 days.

We just don't know yet so saying it wont be compatible with other devices is silly.
The problem is that the vast majority of devices rely on ADE as their rendering engine. If ADE doesn't support it, then the device won't support it. The only exceptions would like LRF/LRX and ADE on the Sony Readers, because Sony has two rendering engines on the device. Likelihood of anyone else doing something like that is fairly low.

If you count the Kindle, and believe the various market share guesses that it holds, the vast majority of devices actually in use don't even support ePub, ADE or otherwise. The point being, that while there are several devices that rely on ADE for their ePub DRM, we don't know how prevalent it is from a usage standpoint overall. Does the Kindle DRM just dwarf it in terms of books sold? Will Apple's ePub DRM choice become the number 2? Or just splinter ePub even more?

I would be curious to know what percentage of the eBook book market sales are in ADE ePub now, and what that will look like a year from now.

kjk - The Kindle has a very small market share outside America still, remember. The majority of devices, worldwide, probably do support ePub-ADE. Also, do remember that there are PC and Mac readers for ePub-ADE

From what I've seen, Kindle is about 60% in the US, but that globally it is a drop in the bucket.

True-I'm just curious what format is being sold/bought right now, and whether ePub-ADE has any significant marketshare at this point in the game. I do realize it has significant mindshare here on Mobileread, and and several mobile devices support it. That doesn't necessarily translate to marketshare, of course.

Do you believe that ADE-ePub books have a much larger marketshare than Kindles DRMed books, if we look at the global market?
