I got him late last week but have been quiet about it to make sure he settled in and we were bonding. even though I wanted a kitten I fell in love with a 6 month old whose original "mama" was having a crisis and couldn't take him. he came with the name "Rafiki" which means "friend" in Swahili, cool, but just not right for him. I think he may be "Strider". we've been working on that and it seems as though he likes it, he is already responding to it.

my camera is giving me hell, and I can only send images from my phone when I am away from home. so here are some other Savannah's to give you an idea;

the black is very similar to mine, the profile of the spotted cat gives a good idea of what they look like (black cats are just so hard to photograph!) and the big guy is honest to goodness his grandpa!!!

his breeder took a video of him playing with her dog the morning he left. she tried to send it to me, but said it was too big. I suggested she put it on youtube. she'll ask her son for help later.

anyway, meet Strider! (sort of)

I think in future Kindlekitten's Strider(?) should be referred to as her CAT! rather than her cat.

They look beautiful.

Cheers,

I've never heard of them either, they do look pretty. Almost as big, height if not weight, as our dog too!! Hmm, the wife has been wanting another cat....

Especially if they go for walks. Our daughter takes her cat for walks all time - it is an exercise in patience at best.

Congrats on your new CAT, kk. Looks a little like a cheetah with less dense spots and longer ears. Beautiful. At 6 months old is he close to fully grown?

How big are his catnip mice? Or do you just throw chihuahuas into the yard and shout "Ready to Rumble?"

yep, and they are GENTLE!!! like my Newfie is huge, but considered "the gentle giant", can't have anything that big in the house with an "attitude"!

The report states that the Savannah cats are not worth the risk.[13][14]

So, don't get your hopes up too high!

Kindlekitten...I'd never heard of this breed...OMG!!! That is one impressive beastie!!! My little Lily maybe weighs 6 Lbs (Our cat), and my Molly (longhaired Chihuahua) weighs 4-1/2 Lbs. All I got is 'WOW'
which is really ironic, because one of the reasons they are so expensive is due to the problems with breeding them. oh well. yeah at 6 mos. he is 5lbs

if you google images for the Savannah cat, you'll see many pics of them being walked. in many ways they really are dog like, and this is one of them. they are also swimmers!

he met the geriatric ward last night (quite by accident), these are the older cats that live upstairs, with .... himself... they had him cornered behind the toilet lickety split and he was cryin' for his mama!

right now just the average "Frederico Ferret" stuffed toy from the store. he's checked out some of the dogs toys though.

I got a deal since his original "mommy" had to back out of her purchase. yeah, they are spendy. especially when you aren't used to paying for cats... dogs, yes, but this is the first cat purchase

I remember years and years ago my mom convinced my dad to get a Burmese, we spent several hundred on it. It was the most beautiful cat, the fur, the features, everything!!

Everything, that is except his personality, he was great with the family, spent most of his time riding around on my shoulders. But, as soon as anyone came over, he ran and hid -no one ever saw him

So, no Savannah for us unless it is a rescue or some other deeply discounted one! But they are definitely a consideration, sort of a cat/dog mix and the best of both.
