Another wonderful night in the ER. Oh, he's fine now, but why did I have to hear him tell the doc that he's been having this pain and trouble catching his breath for a 'few days'?

Especially since I'm always asking "you doing okay?" and his standard response is "yeah, I"m fine!" <SNIP>
Oh, dg, my dad does the exact same thing. Then he turns around and tells the Dr. that he's doing fine (at which point mom gives a detailed description of his problems to the Dr.) I hope everything is settled down now.

So sorry, your uncle is not doing well, Moejoe. Life seems so unfair, sometimes, but, how wonderful that he knows how much you care for him. I'll have you both in my thoughts.

And of course, xrays and blood work showed nothing. Just a slight inflammation, so antibiotic prescribed.

Stupid hospital was full of sick people! AAACCCKKKK!!!
I think your husband just doesn't want you to worry about him. He knows it drains you. He loves you and hates to see you that way. I'd do just the same thing and just suffer quietly so you can rest...

But, sympathy, papering and being waited on hand and foot is nice. That's why we do it for our wives when they are sick.

Well, late this morning I prepared some bolognese sauce for the slow-cooker...it's in, and will be ready for dinner time. Right now, I've just finished making the spaghetti and cleaning up the flour that inevitably went everywhere during the process.

I've not slow-cooked (crock pot) the bolognese before. 5-7 hours should hopefully give it some of the depth it normally takes reheating the next day to give it.

Cheers,
Marc

Sitting at work trying not to combust due to the heat. It's 9AM and already around 35C. By this afternoon I'm sure it's going to be in the mid 40s!

Spag-bol went well. The red wine seems to stay better and deeper in the slow-cooker, and the sauce all-over gets that next-day richness through the pork and beef. It'll certainly be the way I do the old recipe now.

The homemade spaghetti was initially a bit of a mess, but rather than try save it I just thought, bugger it, and chucked it in the bin and remade. It's quick, and it was just 2 eggs and some flour. Second lot, much better sorted with the help of a broom handle. Tasted nice and the texture was much better than the usual store-bought. I'm getting better at it, which is good.

Cheers,
Marc

I have a pasta press that does an excellent job of making noodles. I'll have to get it out for the beef stroghanoff that I'm planning on making this weekend.

As for what I'm doing? Now I feel kind of guilty, but maybe it'll cheer MoeJoe up some - I'm waiting for my new ASUS T91MT convertible netbook to charge so I can play with it.
I made what I hope is the best compromise currently available for functionality and portability. We'll find out after a few days of use.
We'll be waiting for a report.

Actually, while we were there, one nurse had to go home with a fever, another was hacking up a lung.....and things have calmed down. Saw the pulmo guy yesterday, and he looked at the xrays and felt it was the beginning of pneumonia, so he added a prednisone medipak to the Leviquan antibiotic.......Probably, if I were out of the house more, I wouldn't worry so much. However, with all the illnesses at school, (those kids are like walking petri dishes), I've taken a break from volunteering. I just couldn't deal with possibly bringing something home and making him ill.

I'd been wondering about doing spaghetti sauce in the crockpot, but my recipe isn't nearly as complicated as yours, it sounds like. And umm....broom handle for pasta? I'm assuming to lift the skinny strands after you've cut them? It's just that I got this mental picture of you and wet spaghetti dough all over the kitchen....

OK, for DGma, a report on the ASUS T91MT. I've named it, (with input from Chris) Little Bit. I fully expect to get lynched by the "e-ink or nothing" contingent, but I am loving every second of reading on this. When I've got it folded down to a tablet, and portrait oriented, I get a longer (and wider) page of text than was previously possible on any other device I've tried, which was exactly the result I was looking for. I can hold it in tablet form, or unfold it a bit and put it on Chris's pillow and read without having to hold it, and just use one finger to flip pages. I haven't found a downside yet; other than Chris has to shut it off if I go to sleep and leave it on his pillow . Fortunately, he seems to find this endearing rather than annoying.
