--------------------------------------------------------------------- Up until now I have only been using Calibre. So I installed Sony Reader Library, hooked up the reader and it recognized it along with ALL of the installed books. It also showed the screenshots that I took with the new firmware ![]() So, short answer is, yep, it works fine with the software ![]() Quote:

I previously installed the clock hack on my original 505 and shortly after it posted, installed the hack on my 600. Never had any problems, my Reader software works the same as before and all ebooks work same pre and post hack.
I do strongly caution people to read before attempting to install any hack on your Reader. I did so knowing that any problems that occurred would be my own fault. |

Another happy flasher here
PRS-600 with 1.04b Boroda version. Installed the hack to have the clock.
I must admit the process had a heart-stopping part: When I disconnected the USB cable, the reader started the memory scan (that is quite lengthy in my case as I have more than 600 ebooks loaded, spread between the main memory and an 8 GB SD card. As there were no warnings in the instructive I pressed the reset button while this scan was still in process and... the screen froze. This is somehow expectable, but after some 5-10 minutes no changes were evident, so I did the normal shutdown procedure (3 seconds with the power switch slided to the "on" side). No reaction. Reset again. Again nothing. ![]() I removed the SD card, thinking that perhaps something in the startup-update routine could be confused because of it. Then I did as I should to turn it on if all were OK. (again 3 seconds with the power switch slided to the "on" side). This time the LED started blinking yellow, with the screen still stuck in the same image as when I reset the unit. It kept so until about 10 minutes later I decided to try again a "shutdown". The LED turned off. Again turn on, and this time the LED blinked for some minutes and then I saw with relief the screen had changed to the usual "boot" one. When it finished scanning the library, it booted again by itself. After this the unit started OK. Whew... It has been almost two weeks since the procedure and the reader is stable and working well. If there's a next release and I dare to again risk a stroke I will remember to take the SD card off the reader just for a good measure. |

Just ran the hack on my 300 and all seemed to go fine. Now I'll maybe not loose track of the time so easily which might actually be a bad thing.

I didn't have any problems flashing my PRS600 with the 1.04b Boroda version. I did wait until everything stopped before I reset. The SD card remained in the device throughout.

One point to note for the 300 is that it resets automatically after the firmware installs. Probably good to just wait a tad and not do a manual reset.

After vho3000 bricking his I'm leery, even if others have been successful.

Bricking your Reader is always a possibility. If you do not feel comfortable performing the hack I would not take the chance.

Just flashed my PRS-300 using RonF's guide and 1.04a. Worked perfectly, although mine stalled at "Opening Book" for a good minute or two. Once it got past that however, everything was as should be, including remembering my places in books. Love the clock!
If anyone is in contact with Porkupan, adding a pagedown ability for the book select screens would be a godsend! ![]() |

![]() As far as page down for book select. The right arrow jumps to the next page, if that is what you were referring to. |

I couldn't stand it. I flashed my 300. Went beautifully! The ONLY issue so far is my #6 will not advance me. If I move back via #5 or #7 I can move to my last stop point with #6 but I cannot go further. I can though move forward with my #8 with no issues. I think I will value the paging ability more than any other.
RonF, thanks so much for the instructions. I appreciate it tremendously. ETA: It would be nice to have a one button orientation while in the book. Last edited by tnronin; 02-05-2010 at 05:47 PM. Reason: Wishful thinking. |

Is this awesome. I just installed boroda 1.05b. After reading about some failures running the script, I remembered that most executables and scripts must be run as admin in windows XP and above (incl. win7). So I ran the flash_reader.bat from the zip-file as admin (right-click the file, select "run as admin"). Enter the drive letter of the PRS-600, wait for the magic, take the reader off the pc and perform a reset (ok, the pc said it's save to remove the reader, and the reader said do not disconnect, but I trusted win7 more). There you go.
I never had such an easy upgrade with a custom fw before. But the installer batch file is just great. After tinkering with my 505, I was pretty brave to try the upgrade after just one week after buying the 600. But I was missing the clock so much after I got used to it on the 505. |
