start of rant/
I am being drawn to the iPad more and more, because of the endless "i don't want an iPad" posts.... I have to say I have NEVER on ANY FORUM went on their forum and posted post after post stating I did not want to buy the product. If I don't own, or am not interested in buy it, I don't bother going to the forum. I mean, whats the point? For example.... I really don't like Kindle (I'm just saying)... but you will NEVER find me on the Kindle forum pontificating how there device sucks and I won't buy it. If you don't want it .... don't buy it.... and focus on the things YOU ARE INTERESTED in as opposed to abscessing on a product that does not fit your needs.... /this is the official end of rant |

Nice rant, Bremen ![]() And to be clear, I look forward to reading spirited discussions about the positive and negative aspects of Apple products in this forum...no one expects just positive cheerleading...I'll be complaining about features I'm missing for sure. What I hope is that the focus is on people who are interested IN the Apple products, not people who are actively NOT interested, just because it is Apple. I totally realize how polarizing a company like Apple can be. I just find it odd that people who obviously dislike/disprove of a company and their products can devote so much energy talking negatively about the products and the company...instead of focusing on what they do like, and on companies they are positive about...and help educate the positive aspects of those products to others, based on their experiences. I'd think the Kindle forums would be much more interesting to Kindle users if the discussions were with people genuinely interested in the Kindle. It isn't about just saying nice things about the Kindle, or trying to stop people from criticizing the Kindle. It is just understanding that the users in that forum are interested in the Kindle, and keeping the tone of the discussions with that in mind. Going into a Kindle forum with some huge anti-Amazon/anti-Bezos chip on your shoulder doesn't really help anyone, and frankly, just gets tiring to those without those biases. Again, I don't think these forums are for just cheerleading or positive reinforcement only-I'm looking forward to reading both the positive and negative aspects of the iPad, and how it meets/fails to meet what users want/need. I'm just not that interested in constantly seeing the "Apple sucks" tone to the discussions..it gets old. Last edited by kjk; 02-06-2010 at 11:24 PM. |

Thank you JkJ for doing it right ![]() No hate here to anyone, or their opinions of electronic devices. I just wish there was more focus on helping, and less on endless critisizing. You say tomato and I say...... |

The device forums don't have to be all positive by any means. But they should more be places for people who own a device to post--or in this case plan on buying one--or at least considering. Not much use for people 100% opposed to a device to frequent the device's forum. I have no problem with it when it's limited to a thread like this that's discussing a devices shortcomings though. As long as there's not more people posting threads about it not being an e-reader because it's not e-ink, Pixel QI etc., trolling in threads not about the pros/cons of the device it's all good. And I think those threads were all threads that got moved over from the News & Commentary forum anyway. |

And as I said, I'm curious why even here, people are willing to devote a lot more time and energy complaining about what Apple's products won't do for them, than they do in other forums and other products. It is similar to the stupid eInk/LCD arguments...they aren't constructive, or helpful to anyone at some point. I will reiterate again-I don't have a problem with negative opinions/discussions about the products-I think it is healthy. I just think that its a huge site, with specific discussions/focuses on a lot of worthy products, and I'd love to see this one focus on what Apple products can help people with their needs, and attract and keep people who enjoy using Apple products, or think they might. |

The e-ink lovers don't need to be in this forum talking about how it's not a reading device because "if it glows it blows", the Apple haters trolling etc. People like Hans who aren't totally opposed and are fairly discussing pros and cons are certainly welcome to do so. |

There's a fine line between "Gee, I was hoping Apple would include Feature X, I wonder why they didn't, do you think their next product might have that?" and "This product stinks because it doesn't include Feature X or has Limitation Y." The former seems like a perfectly reasonable discussion in a product-specific forum. The latter seems like a waste of time and energy. Hopefully now that there is a dedicated forum for Apple devices, we'll see fewer of those sorts of posts and more constructive criticism.

I was personally very excited about the iPad when I first heard the rumors months ago. I thought this may be my first Apple product. After the specs were released, I was excited and disappointed at the same time.
If the device was missing an SD slot or USB port I would have to pass. It turns out it is missing both. Not to mention the hardware is locked, that too takes it off the table for me. They did get a lot of things right though, but messed up the easy stuff. Maybe version 2 will correct these issues. Last edited by CyGuy; 02-08-2010 at 10:52 AM. |

surely you wouldn't need a USB port to connect to a printer as that can be done wirelessly i would hope. which brings me to a side point in that i do hope they include some printer support. AFAIK, apple has neither confirmed nor denied printer support... so i'm guessing it may be an OS 4.0 feature coming in a few months time. i'm wondering if maybe they're trying to think ahead a little. lets face it, apple was the first company to ship a computer without a floppy disc drive and with a CD-ROM drive standard and many pundits called them crazy for that. i always find the act of transferring photos from my cameras to computer a bit tedious and wish that all cameras had wireless standard. of course you can with an eye-fi card. what if they add support for that via an app or something? they of course have the SD card add-on. annoying, yes, but if cameras are going wireless, it makes sense to a certain extent. ... still trying to think of what else someone would need a usb port for. the only things i hook up via USB nowadays are cameras and hard drives. not sure why you'd want to hook up an external hard drive. i mean you're not using an iPad for serious heavy duty computing and most people i know don't have much of use for external drives other than for backup. ... just thinking out loud... |

I need to be able to have my entire media collection with me at all times so I can read, watch movies, listen to music without any dependence on any kind of network connection. I am often away from my computer and must be able to get content on/off the tablet with no computer or network connection. |
