Hi MGMüller,
Let me ask you a question as an owner of the Ilead (1st or 2nd gen?) and the Kindle DX. When i got my Cybook my iLead began to look a little bit "weak" when it comes to the eink. Now with my kindle dx i nearly stopped reading on my iLead. Thats a shame because i like the notetaking features of the iLead. Is the difference between the DX and Ilead e-ink really that big or could my iLead have a faulty screen? Whats your impression? Do you also notice such a big difference? Is your iLead also more dark grey on grey? Is it cause of the 1st gen e-ink technologie or maybe the age of the device (nearly 4 years old)? |

I've always considered iLiad one of my benchmark units and still do so. In my opinion, the display quality is extremely close to Sony 505, which always seemed first in class to me. For a touchscreen device, iLiad is phantastic. But even as a "standard" unit, it's one of the best. From my personal experience, I'd clearly say you have a faulty screen. But others have mentioned, screen "crispness" would be deteriorating over the years. (Not just with iLiad, with any eInk device). I've got my iLiad for roundabout 2 years now and I can't see any decline. If I compare iLiad to Kindle, Cybook or any other device, it's more or less identical. I noticed this comment (and forgive me if I re-ask a question that shown up somewhere on pages 4-7): Are you left or right handed? TIA, --Chris |

![]() Think i'll have to think about getting another iLead cause if it would have a better screen (and sometimes connect to my WLAN but thats another story) it would be my "travelling" favorite at the moment ... ![]() |

I'm right handed. No problem with iRex iLiad's flipbar on the left. But Cybook Gen3's buttons on the left really are hard to reach. And as I frequently switch between readers, I'm not used to which button for what function to use and have to check the label.

The pic is a bit dark, but I hope it gives you an idea. Additionally, 2 pics comparing iRex iLiad and Kindle 2. Background of iRex iLiad seems a bit darker, but so does the text. Last edited by mgmueller; 02-05-2010 at 10:54 AM. |

![]() Have fun. And post your impressions, especially concerning the criticism about touchscreen or speed that many claim and which I don't share. Last edited by mgmueller; 02-05-2010 at 12:18 PM. |

Anyway, so I'm able to compare before and after the update to 1.2. Pros: - PDBs definitely are working way better now. Before the update, about half of mine was showing wrong metadata for author or title. - Registering by WiFi of course is a huge plus. Genious for us outside of US. - Choosing any timezone is a nice add-on as well. - Some state, the touchscreen would be faster now. I'm not sure about that, but it's at least same as before. Cons: - Somehow the icons in the touchscreen have changed. I did like the old interface better. Over all, the firmware update absolutely was another step forward. If they add screen rotation, I guess it's complete. I haven't found the right cover yet. Do you have one already? Last edited by mgmueller; 02-05-2010 at 11:13 PM. |

https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=72451 I used the promotion code FACEEDGE and got $12 off. You can also get them through Amazon at the same price and same $5 shipping charge. I don't know if the discount code works on Amazon though. ~eddie Last edited by JerseyBiker; 02-05-2010 at 11:57 PM. Reason: change the link |
