Pocket PRO does have Text-To-Speech

I'm asking because a bunch of my friends have started recording their fiction (both fan and original), usually in m4b format because they can include covers with it. I don't have iTunes so I don't know whether remembering the position in a file depends on the software or the audio file itself. I often travel and since I can't read due to motion sickness, I listen to music and wondered if those files would be playable. It's not something I must have; I'm getting an ebook reader to read.
Dear citac:

Your motion sickness may be helped by the fact the Pocket PRO has Text-To-Speech (it reads to you and advances the pages automatically). This is particularly good for EPUB eBooks!! If you do a lot of traveling... try this.

Thank you for a fine post!

Hm, I like that feature in theory, but what kind of quality is it? I mean, is it a computer type voice, or more naturally sounding?

Quite agree. I have a Diamond Rio500 (cant remember how old, 12 years?) that I use for portable music/audio books. It is not much bigger than an iPod, takes 1 AA battery that gives many hours life and it bookmarks both Audiobooks and music perfectly amongst many other functions. Playing MP3's on a Hanlin V5 or V3 reduces the battery life to as little as 5 hours. Why would you?

Ebook readers are for reading and you will love that.

It is a little basic but it works.

I didn't know that it reduces battery life that much. I guess I should stick to my player then, or try to find one that bookmarks the last position because the one I have doesn't. Thanks!

Get some better headphones Setting Louder uses more battery.

I use Sony MDR V150, on the ear type and only used less than 2 bars (still flips 3-2) in an 8 hour work shift (with reading at Lunch break).

That's perfectly fine. It would be nice to have, but is not a deal breaker.
Check out the ID3.org web site or see the metadata article in the wiki. I was wrong in that ID3 v2 tags are prepended (the old 1.1 tags are appended)

Dear citac:

It works and works well. But it is a tiny bit like a machine voice as it is a machine after all. I try to stay clear of subjective appraisals as they instantly draw conflict.

For me, in my opinion, it is very easy to understand and listen to. Maybe a bit robotic... but easy enough to listen to.

Citac, hear it for yourself here. It is near the very bottom of the webpage.

Yes, it's actually playing in the order they are stored in the File Allocation Table (FAT). I used to have a player that worked like this (simple ones often do), and I found there were utilities out there that let you sort/change the order in the table.
