				nightstand bulb - daylight

I purchased last night a 10W (40W equivalent) daylight bulb. The light is realy white compared with the regular bulb from the other nightstand. Me and my GF we did the test and the visibility on the PRS-900 it is the same no matter what bulb you use. I'm starting to get used with the e-ink technology. I'm looking for a portable light but what I found around in this forum attaches to the front cover folded and I don't like it at all. I also read that the case with light provided by sony which costs a lot is weak and crappy so I'll dig more until I find a solution. |

I'm sure it's frustrating. The bulbs in my house are 60W and 100W equivalents. I just like bright, natural looking light throughout the house. I also use one of these near my side of the bed instead of a traditional nightstand light: http://www.staples.com/OTT-LITE-HD-B...?cmArea=SEARCH Let us know what portable light you find. Options seem to be limited to clip on to case (folded back) or Sony cover/light combo. I'm waiting for an M-Edge Leather Cover with the e-lluminator booklight that slides into an opening within the cover. http://www.medgestore.com/products/p...eluminator.psp Last edited by SCION; 02-03-2010 at 02:23 PM. | |

The MightyBright ExtraFlex 2 is really nice with the Sony touchscreen readers. I have tons of flashlights (don't ask), thus have many to compare the color temperature and brightness before checking out the available book lights. I, like others, have found that light on the 4300K-5000K side makes the Sony screen much more legible. The ExtraFlex 2, after trying the TravelFlex (nice), and a Spike Light (both at B&N), was the best for me. It's very bright with both LED's firing, has a nice clip that can go on the Sony/Case Logic hard case, or directly onto the reader. If you live near a B&N, check out their selection. The ExtraFlex 2 is $14.95 there and cheaper than Amazon.

I use the MightyBright ExtraFlex 2 as well, which can clip on the cover of the PRS900 while you're holding it open like a book. It makes the contrast much better - closer to black on white.

				M-Edge e-Luminator2

Can't wait to see some pictures once you have the M-Edge e-Luminator2 installed on your PRS-900. I don't see at this point how are you going to attach it. Maybe stick it to the back cover. Quote:

The PRS-900 screen is "supposed" to be better than the PRS-600. So I'm wondering if you might have a bad unit. On the other hand I wanted to return my 600 when I got it home. It was VERY clear in the store (multiple overhead light sources). But I like to recline, feet up, and read with a 60 watt floor lamp behind and to the right. The contrast (no pun) between the store lighting and what I use at home were VERY striking. Add to that the fact that my first ereader had back light (the EB1150) and I wasn't happy. The 600 however suits me to a T, and I soon got used to it being darker. My advice? Try it for a few days or a week. If you can't get used to it, return it. There are some readers that have back light, and they are cheaper than the Sony. But it suits me and I wouldn't trade it in. At least not this year. P. S. - LED lights - try a cheap LED light before buying a "good" one for reading. After trying one myself, I returned it. Use a brighter bulb in your lights or increase the font size. jb_alphamale: I might be wrong but but I feel your problem is more to do with getting used to of e-ink than actual lighting. All the devices you've used in the past are backlit. An E-ink reader is not. Now, maybe you do most of your reading at dim lit places (like many I know) but even that is also something which can't be solved by having a few extra lights. I would advise to, perhaps, go a store and try other readers 'live'. Assuming most stores are well-lit taking the 900 to compare would help a lot. |

This brought to mind this Penny Arcade strip. It's about the original GameBoy Advance, but could easily apply to some of the PRS-900 talk here! |
