I dunno ... watching the keynote and the "ohmygodthisisawesome" videos on the iPad product page I can't help but be convinced that this is the best thing since sliced bread.

Won't buy it, though, since I already have a laptop and an iPhone. But I think it does create, for a lot of people, a need that has not really been there before, but now only gets stronger

Granted, 10 hours would be lousy for a device dedicated only to eBooks, but for a more general purpose computing device it's generous. I work with several different laptops (an Acer, a Toshiba, and a couple of different Thinkpads at work) and the battery life on all of them is only 2 to 3 hours with the standard batteries.

I've found that Apple's claims of 5 to 6 hours of battery life for an iPod Touch are accurate, so I have no reason to doubt their claim of 10 hours for most activities. That seems fairly decent performance to me. |

Yep, plenty of battery life for a general purpose device.

Hell, I don't think I've ever read on my Kindle for more than 3 hours at any one stretch (including long flights). So, I could deal with 10 hours on a tablet I was doing some reading on. I'd mostly use it around outlets so no biggie to plug it in every night, or for a bit after using it each time etc. for me. I wouldn't replace my kindle for novel reading with a tablet. But I really want one for PDFs, magazines, newspapers etc., as well as the other non-reading functions. |

Flash apparently shows up how unstable Apple's equipment really is. - Presumably this will affect other Adobe apps being adopted, e.g. Adobe AIR and Adobe Digital Editions. Last edited by AprilHare; 02-01-2010 at 04:31 AM. |

I can understand that. But with enough perseverance and determination one can bring anything to it's knees.

I must admit that the only time I experience program crashes is when I open too many break.com browser tabs. Flash video, Flash ads, Flash whatever ... kapwing, good night safari. That said, I haven't had a system crash in years, I think the only kernel panics (love the name!) I had were with panther (10.2 or 10.3) While I love my mac and my iPhone and out myself with my avatar, I am relatively certain that objectively, flash really needs to be improved. Both the player as well as the authoring program. It's usually one of the Adobe programs that suddenly decides to take a break and inform me that "something went wrong". ![]() Luckily, Indesign and Illustrator have a nice way of saving EVERY stroke so that you can just re-start the program and continue. Anyhow .... what was the question? |

I can understand some of the compaints directed at the iPad, such as the lack of multi-tasking, but I don't get the complaints about Flash. Does anyone actually do anything productive and useful with Flash? Seriously, the majority of the time it sure seems like Flash is used for animated ads or video plug-ins.

I don't miss Flash at all when surfing on my iPod. |
