Agreed. Make a tablet forum. There will be a slew of tablets coming out in the next year, and all of them will probably have access to e-books.

There really needs to be one area to discuss all these tablets, and away from the e-ink lovers who just endlessly bash them for not being e-ink, not being dedicated readers etc.

Would cut down on a lot of the silly and repetitive arguing over eyestrain, battery life etc. that comes up in every tablet thread as hopefully the e-ink lovers would stay out of threads about devices they aren't interested in if they were in their own forum.

That certainly sounds like a reasonable alternative to me.

I probably tend to place the Apple devices together because they would seem to be somewhat...divisive, and that way any foaming at the mouth over the fruit-grower could be segregated for, as you say, possible inclusion or exclusion (at a forum preference level) by us all.

That's me though...I tend to try avoid conflict, so its partially that bias driving my own preference.

I agree, it should be with Apple devices. And yes, it is an E-reader as Apple is opening their Ibook store through I-tunes so there will be a following, just like with the Kindle, Sony, and other brands. Don't knock it for having internet capability, email, etc, as Kindle can do that to! Actually because of it being annouced today, I came back to this web site to interact with other readers and I haven't been here for quite some time, so let's get the conversation going!

I think the other tablets don't deserve their own forum.

Number of thread on the iPad means it need one.
I would say, "apple" section, with "iPhone" and "iPad" subsection.

Number of threads are a temporary thing, and if it turns out the only thing you can read on iPad will be books bought from iBooks store, there won't be much to talk about. I think such reorganisation of the forum should wait until we see what the device can do.

I recall reading the article (either on Engadget or Gizmodo). The 'tablet' will come out in 2010 and for those talking about the 'OS determines the device'... unless I completely misread the intention of HP it is my understanding that their tablet should come out with Windows 7 and also as a version with Android.

Which would make organization by OS a messy affair.

I think the OS thing was a joke. But we are currently organized by manufacturer - Sony, Amazon, Astak(though that is a re-brand), etc. So it would make sense to go under the "Apple" area however that is organized....

but organisation by manafacturer doesnt work wither, I think the iPad sits with the iPhone as much as the iPhone isnt in a forum with other mobiles.

Just because there will be more posts on that than anything else.

They don't deserve their own forums, but as more come out with e-book capabilities it would be nice to have a place to discuss them without every thread devolving into the "oh no eyestrain", "oh no battery life", "oh no I only read and don't want a device that does other stuff" non-sense that tends to derail every tablet thread.
