I've bought four houses (to live in), and none of them has ever been the one I initially decided I wanted. That house...those houses, have always fallen through. I've been disappointed deeply at the time, and then each time ended up in a house that is better. Disappointment probably leads to greater focus, and a firmer position with sellers and real estate agents; greater surety and eye for what is wanted; realisation that small desires may be filtering good properties that can be "fixed" after sale; seeing advertised prices as the loosest of guides, compared to market sales (can you get a "properties sold in this area in recent times" guide to prices?). She can't understand at the moment, and she'll learn that sellers and real estate agents are more often than not disingenuous or liars and that you can't do anything about that, and she'll rely on her own strength and awareness and intelligence and instinct as much as she can, and she'll find the right place. It'll have its problems (every house does, new or old, and neither the seller, real estate agent, nor even the pre-purchase building inspection will help), but it'll be her home and she can fix it. She'll be happy. Just keep up the hard slog, and she'll get through into something cockle-warming: her own place. Basically, tell her I said, "Yes, it sucks, but it'll be worth it". Get to it! There's a home out there! ![]() Cheers, Marc |

Kaz, I'm feeling for Sharon. But I am sure (as someone else pointed it out) it wasn't meant to be. Something better will come along.
And I can understand that she doesn't understand it - was it her first offer on a house? Lots of emotions involved there. But she will get her house. I am sure of that. PS: sending lots of positive house hunting thoughts |

Thanks, all, for the support. Shannon is pretty good about taking things in stride and is anxious to start looking again. She actually wanted to buy an older home and fix it up, but her dad and I are steering her towards something a little less work. She is only 22 so we didn't want her tied down to something that could potentially become a money pit. She's keeping all her options open, though. As an artist, she has an eye toward the potential of a place which seems to elude me at times.

Hi Kaz - still crossing my fingers for Sharon. Please keep us posted so I can uncross them eventually. And although I understand Sharon's need for 'creating' her own, ie renovating - don't let her do it. It will take over your life, spits you out at the end and leaves you with nothing. Although it can be very satisfying if you pull it of. But only if you can do most of the handywork yourself.
On the other hand, I am just recovering from a scare imposed upon me by my reader. How dare he was trying to restart for the last 20 minutes and not doing anything. After switching the thing on & off a few times I hooked it up to the puter and started the Sony Library - HA take that. It's now working again ![]() |

Being optimistic.
Okay.....its been three months since the finish of radiation treatments for my husbands 4th bout with cancer, 3 involving lung......had the pet/ct scan last week.
Docs office called the next day. Their words: "radical shrinkage" "Extremely happy with results" "no further treatment as yet, in three months another pet/ct scan to see how much further its shrunk." So.......husband was thrilled, thinking the thing was about gone. Then we got the physical report. Seems the tumor has shrunk......from 5.0x2.9, to 2.9x1.7. Thats about 50%.....and husband is bummed. I know that it will continue shrinking for a while, and that this is good news, and we should be thankful for this much, but still...... Anyway.......I'm posting this because I've received pm's asking about how things were going, and I want to say I really appreciate the thoughts. ![]() |

Watching The Dice Tower podcast top 100 games list video. I am really into these types of games, and wish I had more time and people to play them with.

Sitting here staring into space. It's been a rough few days. Chris had what he thought was going to be an "easy" outpatient procedure on Thurs. morning. Turned out recovery didn't quite go as he expected - we were back in the doctor's office later that afternoon, in the ER that night, and back to the doctor's office early yesterday morning. I think (hope) he's well on the road to recovery now; and I finally got my first decent amount of sleep since Wednesday night.
He's still snoozing on the couch at the moment, and I'm - well, I'm sitting here vegetating. |

Currently I'm giggling to myself, touching my hair... Two years ago, I heard of the Pantene Beautiful Lengths program, and I decided I really wanted to participate, so for the last two years I have let my hair grow, without any cuts. Now long hair doesn't really flatter me, the ideal length for my round face is a little shorter than shoulder lenght, so it was kind of a big deal. This morning I was untangling my excessively long hair (middle back lenght, such a hassle for me) and I thought that was it, I couldn't stand it any longer. I tied my hair like they say on the Pantene site, with two elastics, and Bf asked if he could cut the pony tail. Told him no probs, just follow the top elastic. He started cutting. ![]() Shriek of horror. Screams. Apologies ."I didn't realize I was going up, I don't know what happened" he said. I explained roughly that I don't kow why, but that happens when you cut a lot of hair in a bunch, which is why you need to be careful. Five minutes later I was on my way to find a salon. First one I found was closed, at in the second one I asked for an appointment really really quickly. The little lady offered Monday, so I asked, with a really pityful look, if she could take me today. She answered that they were closing, and asked what was the rush, so I told her that my bf just cut my hair. New shrieks of horror. She grabbed me and sat me on a chair with exclamations of "Poor little girl!" and "How could he!", and lots of giggles too, and made something decent out of my hair... kind of a really short bob, 1 cm longer then ear length (waaay too short). I don't like bobs, but she was so nice that I considered it nicer to just shut up and smile. Hence now, I'm giggling and playing with my hair. |
