Again, sources, please. Or your comments are pure FUD.

From my previous post, quoting macrumors.com:

"... The site also makes a dubious claim that Apple is using the ARM Mali 50-Series GPU for its graphics hardware which would represent a departure (and potential downgrade) for Apple from the PowerVR chips that they've used in the past. Apple is a licensee and major stakeholder in Imagination Technologies, the company behind the PowerVR chipset...."

the funnest part about the release of new devices is reading all the arguing about them that goes on.

No, you were not clear. You are spreading FUD, and your statements are either based on lack of knowledge, or a willfully misinforming.

The fact is, that an Apple store application license applies to all iPhones on the same personal account.

In other words, when I purchase Navigon, it appears on both my iPhone, and on my wife's iPhone. This is the standard practice at the Apple App Store.

Your statements to the contrary are untrue, unless you can provide specific instances. FUD.

(Hint to the impatient: Sometimes people actually take the time to read through posts they're responding to before replying)

Again, FUD. The A4 used in the iPad is most likely multicore - you claim to the contrary was made up. FUD.

The GPU is unlikely to be Mali. Did you read my macrumors reference?

I will quote macrumours again: "The site also makes a dubious claim that Apple is using the ARM Mali 50-Series GPU for its graphics hardware which would represent a departure (and potential downgrade) for Apple from the PowerVR chips that they've used in the past. Apple is a licensee and major stakeholder in Imagination Technologies, the company behind the PowerVR chipset...."

"Reading between the lines?!!!" This is laughable.

Your claim that "a large part of the market is IPS screens now" is untrue. The above statement provides no information to back it up.

The reality is, that there are very few, mostly high-priced, IPS products on the market currently, with virtually none in the laptop segment, and none in the tablet market, that I am aware of. FUD, again.

Either show something concrete to support your claim, or stop making stuff up.

This "fast refreshing, colorful" screen is, for a majority of people (definitely not all!) not suitable for extended text reading, you yourself give the two points that alone justify a reader. Others are heat and battery service life/cost. I see the relationship between a dedicated device like a reader and the current crop of multifunction devices as the same as between a camera phone and an SLR. Sure, you can make a few snap shots with your phone, but if you are serious about photography?

Besides, the $499.- is not really a serious entry point. 16GB storage for such a device? So we are really talking $799.-. I would love a multifunction device that can also replace a real computer, with a screen that is easy on the eyes and a battery that can last a few days. This gigantic ipod still cannot even run background apps! So for me, I see no place for it, nothing it can do that I can't do much better with some other device I already have.

If you love a dedicated browsing device, multimedia player and are not satisfied with a phone with a big screen -- then go for the ipad. I just don't think it is worth the money compared to a good netbook and can't satisfy me as a reader. For those people that read comics and complicated PDFs, maybe.

$699 + sales tax is what we are looking at

No eBook reader requires 3G. And if you say you need 3G then you are not even talking $829, because you still need to purchase a monthly data plan.

Putting MR guidelines aside for the moment, and the necessity to hit that "report post" button, do you both realise that the devolution of rhetoric that begins to filigree your posts detracts significantly from the (in my opinion, interesting and edifying) content? Seriously, sincerely (and, in that, respectfully), can I humbly ask that you tone that negative aspect down a notch or two? I realise passions get raised, and that I have no authority with which to ask this of you, but in my opinion again it serves no useful purpose here, in that it's taking it towards a region where you just insult each other rather than disagreeing or discussing or elaborating on the topic at hand - something more usefully continued, if you wish to continue it, person-to-person than person-to-forum-at-large.

Cheers,
Marc

I'm assuming that you realize that books can be loaded on the Kindle via the USB you were only emphasizing the wireless aspect.

I don't think its defensible. That's the point I was trying to raise.

Pointing out that fanboys drool...well, if you don't buy common memes like that I can't help your sense of humour I'm afraid.
I do "buy" those memes. And it doesn't change that it is an insult, and one particularly addressed in the guidelines I linked to.

I was trying to honestly suggest that your content, yes, your content, is meaningful, helpful, interesting, educational, to me - that I was enjoying the discussion - and that the other stuff contrary to MR guidelines detracted from it. I was trying to diplomatically suggest this so that MR moderator intervention was not necessary.

That is all. If you don't wish to do that, so be it.

Marc

What??? 'copying to'? I don't understand what you mean. Are you implying that I am doing something illegal?
We have one iTunes account on several PC's with 4 iPod's and 2 iPhones (and hopefully 2 iPads soon). All apps, music etc. get automatically synced to the relevant devices via iTunes.
Edit: Apps are licensed to a single iTunes account AFAIK.
