From my previous post, quoting macrumors.com: "... The site also makes a dubious claim that Apple is using the ARM Mali 50-Series GPU for its graphics hardware which would represent a departure (and potential downgrade) for Apple from the PowerVR chips that they've used in the past. Apple is a licensee and major stakeholder in Imagination Technologies, the company behind the PowerVR chipset...." |

the funnest part about the release of new devices is reading all the arguing about them that goes on.

The fact is, that an Apple store application license applies to all iPhones on the same personal account. In other words, when I purchase Navigon, it appears on both my iPhone, and on my wife's iPhone. This is the standard practice at the Apple App Store. Your statements to the contrary are untrue, unless you can provide specific instances. FUD. Quote:
Again, FUD. The A4 used in the iPad is most likely multicore - you claim to the contrary was made up. FUD. The GPU is unlikely to be Mali. Did you read my macrumors reference? I will quote macrumours again: "The site also makes a dubious claim that Apple is using the ARM Mali 50-Series GPU for its graphics hardware which would represent a departure (and potential downgrade) for Apple from the PowerVR chips that they've used in the past. Apple is a licensee and major stakeholder in Imagination Technologies, the company behind the PowerVR chipset...." Quote:
Your claim that "a large part of the market is IPS screens now" is untrue. The above statement provides no information to back it up. The reality is, that there are very few, mostly high-priced, IPS products on the market currently, with virtually none in the laptop segment, and none in the tablet market, that I am aware of. FUD, again. Either show something concrete to support your claim, or stop making stuff up. Last edited by Sonist; 01-28-2010 at 08:49 PM. |

Besides, the $499.- is not really a serious entry point. 16GB storage for such a device? So we are really talking $799.-. I would love a multifunction device that can also replace a real computer, with a screen that is easy on the eyes and a battery that can last a few days. This gigantic ipod still cannot even run background apps! So for me, I see no place for it, nothing it can do that I can't do much better with some other device I already have. If you love a dedicated browsing device, multimedia player and are not satisfied with a phone with a big screen -- then go for the ipad. I just don't think it is worth the money compared to a good netbook and can't satisfy me as a reader. For those people that read comics and complicated PDFs, maybe. |

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPad No eBook reader requires 3G. And if you say you need 3G then you are not even talking $829, because you still need to purchase a monthly data plan. |

I was trying to honestly suggest that your content, yes, your content, is meaningful, helpful, interesting, educational, to me - that I was enjoying the discussion - and that the other stuff contrary to MR guidelines detracted from it. I was trying to diplomatically suggest this so that MR moderator intervention was not necessary. That is all. If you don't wish to do that, so be it. We have one iTunes account on several PC's with 4 iPod's and 2 iPhones (and hopefully 2 iPads soon). All apps, music etc. get automatically synced to the relevant devices via iTunes. Edit: Apps are licensed to a single iTunes account AFAIK. Last edited by dragonbone; 01-28-2010 at 10:33 PM. |
