Yes, giant, huge mostly useless unless packing it for air travel.

I just put it away. Maybe I should sell in the Flea Market...

Has anyone confirmed that the PRS-900 has the same problem as the other Sony models regarding having both ePub and pdf library eBooks on the device at the same time? (i.e. protected page error.)

Not me. I avoid PDFs if at all possible.

I got mine from BB.com and it did come with the hardcase. In fact it came with everything that BB had listed on the product page for it:

* Sony Reader Daily Edition Digital Book
* Rechargeable lithium-ion battery
* Protective zipper case
* USB cable
* Soft cover
* AC charger
* Quick-start guide

If you didn't get it all, unless it was marked as some special packaging I'd give them a call and either get it or some form of credit.

Especially when they put it in the advertisment plus instruction manual....discounted or not, when they list it, that is part of what you paid for.

I put it side-by-side with my coworker's PRS-600 this morning and was pleasantly surprised by the improved contrast of the PRS-900. I know there are some mentions but it seems odd to me there should be a difference. It looks as if the base page white is slightly whiter and the lettering has a less blurred edge.

I'm thinking the larger screen real estate and more accounts for the whiter look, the better fonts definitely make for clearer lettering. It's a great upgrade.

The larger range of greyscale helps with the font edges (anti-aliasing winds up being better if you have more shades to work with).

The whiter look? Maybe just the fact that these are different panels, likely with higher contrast between black and white than the 600s have been getting.

Yes this is an issue. Books will appear with an error message when you try to open them. My work around::
I load the epub files using the sony software or calibre. Disconnect my reader and check the files.

In a second download, I load the pdf's via adobe digital and drag and drop library ebooks to my memory card.

All books are readable.

We looked for an optical illusion based on space (expose just a similar-size area on both using our hands). It could be manufacturing variation and not a model difference but my base white is definitely a slightly lighter shade.

The base "color/whiteness" of an e-ink screen is set individually during manufacturing so there can be some variation between units.

I just wanted to say that now that I've had this almost a week, I'm really loving it. love the feel of it in my hands. And am getting used to the controls etc, though I must say the Kindle2 has the best navigation and I tend to use it for reading calibre downloaded news and mags. I think I'd still prefer a wider screen and maybe slight bigger, but we'll see as my ebook acquisition continues.
