I seem to recall the gentleman who did the new power manager for the iliad to take advantage of the bigger replacement batteries coming to the same conclusion. When the touchscreen was not actively being used the power drain was very, very minimal.

If touch screen is not the culprit, then who is to be blamed that most of eInk based readers runs for 10-14 days without recharge and iRex products no more than...many hours? like 10-12h? even with a full showdown between reading sessions?

Just had a thought. Perhaps Irex has a glut of 1000s they would like to sell, so they didn't put the same features(folders etc) in the DR800 because they were concerned it would take sales away from the 1000. So they are positioning the 800 as sort of the "DR1000 Lite", a compromise for people who will sacrifice having some of the "features" for a better price. I can see the thought process this way - I still don't agree with it |

I never switch off my iLiad. Lacking standby, startup time would be to annoying for me. I've never experienced the 10 to 12 hours you mention. It's definitely a few days. On the other hand, I never could make 2 weeks with my Sony 505 or other readers.

You can read on your iLiad for 20 hours non-stop?

Well, I don't actually read more than 6 or 8 hours in a single instance of course. But I permanently keep it on - for days.

The only difference I see between my various units: Sony I simply put into standby and can restart it after weeks. iLiad I leave on and after some weeks (reading or not) the battery is drained. Last edited by mgmueller; 01-23-2010 at 02:04 PM.

Maybe they improved it? I have done some research one year ago when I considered buying iRex iLiad v2, and general consensus was that you can read 10-12 hours maximum before recharging. |

I don't think we can yet draw conclusions on battery consumption in the 800. We'll need to let more people get some time with it in real world usage and after indexing is completed (provided it is actually doing background indexing).

iRex iLiad has, in my opinion, the best zoom functionality (iRex 1000S as well, but given the huge screen you barely need it there). iRex 800 does reflow instead. Nothing too special, most others can do this as well. For Kindle DX, PDF would NOT be my first choice, Amazon's native .azw by far delivers better results.
