Maybe a good Oberon leather cover would help as that little original Sony cover just isn't enough. (all sorts of colors and designs available oberondesign.com) They make them for the Sony 505s and 700's and 600s. Square Trade also sells insurance with accident protection for one time accident with a $50-60 deductible. I bought that for my Kindle2 and the DX. I got the Oberon cover for my Kindle DX, as it is almost an extra 1/2 inch bigger around than the reader. Very good protection for drops, as I have done a few. Not sure about smashing it in with a car door though.

I am not affiliated with Oberon.

I disagree with some! I think you should keep buying her readers to destroy so you can keep writing about it! I sense a story in the making! Memoirs of a Reader-Killer.....

disclaimer* I do not truly condone the unnecessary slaughter or torture of innocent readers... but Iʻm pretending this is all fiction, so itʻs ok in my little head!

Yes and you can keep us up to date on the latest models and maybe even make a few bucks by contracting her out to the manufacturers as a Stress Tester.

This is getting to be very dangerous territory - innocent little readers being stalked by fearsome serial killers, pictures of damaged readers swathed in "medical" tape. Grief, next you'll be posting pictures of readers stripped of their protective covers and sporting minute little SD cards.

Must go and have a cold shower.

Everyone one seems to think that I have a choice about her getting new readers as she breaks them. Well... I guess I do have a choice, but as far as I know "Reader Abuse" is not grounds for a divorce, and that seems a bit extreme

I've thought about that, and I could get an ad-supported site to help defray the costs of Reader and reading habit (I see that readercide.com, abusedreaders.com and readerabuse.com are available). However I like it around here, so I'll guess I just keep posting stories here.

divorce let's not be hasty !! (and besides, it's so entertaining. )

LOL, you really have a lot of money to burn. Your wife should read paper books. If that leaves you with too much money, please send it to me. ;-)

I have my lighted-wedge cover inside an "At-a-glance" leather daytimer (with the calendar removed). Mine tried to commit suicide by jumping off the top of the roof of my Jeep while driving 55+MPH on a country road. Glad to say, the leather cover kept it from getting anything more serious than a scrapped knee (okay, it was the bottom right-hand corner, but knee sounded so much more poetic!)

Actually, I think it is. If I'm not mistaken, even most religions allow for divorce in the case of eReader-cide. I'm pretty sure it's in the Bible.

So I came home yesterday, and my wife told me that she dropped the reader (again). This time while the Reader is fine (or at least no worse than it already was), she did however injure the cover which will no longer stay securely on. The bottom tab got bent back - and since the case was bent in a little bit it's a little loose.

The real funny part is that two days ago, I lent my Reader to a friend for long term use ( to replace his Reader which had been promised to his daughter for her birthday by his wife ), under the condition that I would need it back when my wife broke hers.

Sigh... I was hoping to hold off making the decision about purchasing a new Reader for myself until I could check out the new crop of them at work (Que/eDGe), guess I'll need some sort of way to fix the reader up to sit securerly in the cover --- now why does duck tape come to mind

No one in my family can believe I have my reader still in one piece....as I seem to have some mental incapcity to spare the lives of several cell phones....ok I was on call once and murdered one by giving it a swim as I drove by the canal....my current phone has a crack in the screen due to an unfortunate encounter with some rebar...its currently duck taped and working.... I'm searching for another.
I have the 505 with the lightwedge cover....still I am proud to say. My son took me to the post supply when he was in the army and slid it into a shovel cover thingy....it works great. I have dropped it a few times with no injuries at all....love it! I still have yet to figure out why the army felt the need to make shovel covers....shouldnt be an issue with them falling and getting dirty...but I found it great for my reader.
