I live in northern Arizona and winter storm number 3 for this week is getting ready to sling more snow on us although the "experts" say this storm will be part rain and snow and to just stay home the next 2 days. Easy for them to say. At a minimum we will get another 12 inches of snow on top of the 12 inches we already got this week and the 2 feet left over from the blizzard in December. Keep Arizona in your prayers as the southern part of the state is to get 4-6 inches of rain and flooding fears abound.
To answer the question forming in your mind, Flagstaff (northern Arizona) is at an elevation of 7000 feet. We get that cold winter weather complete with snow storms. The southern part of the state (Phoenix) is where the temperatures are pleasant during the winter months. |

It's not really foggy today! Which doesn't mean it's a good visibility, I'd put it at about 400m now...

Well, just as predicted yesterday - same old same old. Hot & humid = sticky & uncomfortable. I can't believe I complaint about the winter in Europe. From here it doesn't sound too bad actually.
If it's cold you can rug up and still do thinks. In the heat there are only so many clothes you can take off and it's still hot & humid. Hmmmm ..... |

snowbirds
And then there are the snowbirds who live in Phoenix and drive to Flagstaff to play in the snow. Seriously, they do. They create terrible traffic jams too in this small town.
![]() As an update to storm #3, we have almost 3 feet of snow on the ground and more coming...... The schools have been closed all week. Forget the snow day, how about a snow week! |

43.4 C (110 F). Sunny. 20% humidity.
No wind. Burnt my feet walking on the outside concrete. Depending on overworked air conditioning to cool computer room to somewhat more comfortable 33.9 C (93.0 F), 23% humidity. The cricket is on TV - Pakistan the last time I looked was 1 for 67, but they're in Brisbane which is at a more comfortable cloudy 28 C (82 F), 62% humidity. |

I don't even want to know what your wife says about that! Chris does the same, though - it's kinda nice to be his "heater" when he crawls into bed at night ![]() As for the weather here, I was under strict orders not to leave the house today because everything is covered in a very dangerous ice glaze. It's supposed to thaw tomorrow and be in the 40's Saturday with rain. I could cheerfully do without the rain, though it'll help melt all this snow we've had laying around since the first week of December! But - and I'm so excited about this I can barely type - I have plans to go to Dekalb to a signing by Julie Hyzy on Saturday, which is why I could do without the rain, but I'm glad it'll be at least marginally safer to drive in cold rain vs. ice glaze! |

I'm feeling somewhat guilty for enjoying sunny skies and temps in the neighborhood of 60F (15C) for the past 3 days, since all the rain/snow we normally get this time of year is dumping on California and Arizona instead and causing such havoc.

We are well into Farking Winter here. Yesterday, a nice little glaze of ice landed on everything right a commute time, making the streets hazardous for those of us who walk to work. More expected today. Farking winter. |

Mine arrived just after all our ice melted
![]() I've heard socks on the outside of shoes work well - I did sort-of try it once taking the rubbish out (slippers with a sock-like sole), and they gripped well. Didn't have the nerve to try it going to work though! |
