I just hop on the band wagon.

I have about six hundred books on a SD card. Up to now it's OK but it's still growing... and soon...I'll hit the wall.

I would like to know where exactly is the post describing this "noscan" magic that I would like to try?

I've tried the "mount SD card" way. Bad news: it drains battery in standby (probably umount could stop that, but if user forgets to umount... ouch...). Good news: SD card content that wasn't visible otherwise is visible when mounted.

You have to have "PRS+" installed (check URL in my signature) for ".noscan" to work. (there is also a way to achieve the same via config menu, check the PRS+ user manual)

Thanks for the info Kartu, it's inline with my experiments and confirms the 4GB data space limit with Files/Folders. I don't think I'll use the "mount SD card" way at the moment... it's a few extra steps in the process but if you ever figure a way to just add a couple of buttons to the File/Folder screen for Mount/unmount to give the extra access there then I'd be appreciative.

Not a biggie at the moment as I've got 25K of books across 2 cards (MS and SD) and still have space but it would be nice to get full functionality from the 8GB and 16GB cards that I have. Thanks for your time looking at this

I might add option to do weird:

1) mount
2) list files/folders using mounted dir
3) umount

to "Browse Folders". Whether that will be fast enough, is still to be tested.

That sounds like the perfect solution combined with current facility to copy from card to internal memory for reading. If you get working it would seem to then answer all problems accessing large numbers of books/big SDHC cards.
