Hi Montebello,

I come from Greece and yesterday I received an ONYX ebook reader, which is great!!! I also own a CYBOOK and therefore I can tell that Boox 60 is far ahead!

However, it seems that I accidentally broke the screen (see attached photo). How can I handle this?

Thank you in advance!

The only thing you can do is get in touch with the company and see what they will do for you.

Mike, I am looking forward to the improved web browser.

There are several reviews here of this device, any way someone can consolidate the reviews of the Boox here, in a new thread? I would, but I don't want to step on any toes.

I wonder whether the djvu format is supported.
There're contradictory statements in internet.

Onyx is planning to release many new versions of the Boox including a 10" and a 8" within the first or second quarters of 2010

Wow - if this will come true...

There are hardly any 8" Devices on the market. Just 5 or 6" and 10" (more or less) ones.

Will Onyx Boox be at the German Hannovermesse in March 2010?

DJVU is not supported at this time, at least the one I tried would not open. I'll ask them to add it in an update.

The review that started this thread says you can only go to Google, Wikipedia and one other site with the WiFi. Is this true?

I would have thought you could go anywhere on the web since it has a browser. My plan was to download books from stores like kobobooks.com.

MikeOnyx,

I started an (unofficial) english spoken Onyx support forum at BooxUsers.com . I am collecting user questions and official answers into a FAQ, so that future and current Boox owners will be able to find all the information in a convenient location. At the moment a lot of valuable information seems to be scattered around the web.

Please understand my intentions are only to provide Boox users with more information. If you want to discuss the forums I set up, please contact me there or via PM.

I would love to see Onyx International at the CeBIT too this year.
I'll make sure to come and say hi if you happen to be there!

MikeOnyx questions; when will there be upgrades?

I am a newbie and looking for the "right" eReader. The Boox 60 is very
intriguing and I have read and watched everything I can find but I still have a few questions I hope you can help with:
1. when will an 8 inch be released?
2. when will a full browser be available?
3. memory at Mb is very little/plans for 1Gb?
4. does it cost to upgrade to 16 grayscale?
5. is the AdobeDE what allows one to read DRMs & is it installed?
Thank you

Question Re review of Boox 60 by Nate the Great

Thank you for such a great review. I had been looking at the JetBook but ran across the Boox 60 at PC World. I have left some specific questions for MikeOnyx. But I would like to get your thoughts on how these two eReaders might compare? I prefer to be able to download/purchase books without a PC, "turn pages" with minimal flicker, long battery life, power source USB and AC, memory upgradable, and of course be able to read any format.
I appreciate your patience.---Patricia

BTW I gave my 11 yo grandson when he was very young, the nickname, "Nate the Great". He found your monicur and picture very amusing.

direct epub downloads

[QUOTE}
If you're planning to buy commercial ebooks, then you'll probably need to download and install Adobe DE on your PC. After you install and register DE, plug in the Boox and DE will recognize it as an ebook reader. You'll be able to transfer DRMed ebooks to the Boox.[/QUOTE]

So, if I understand you correctly, DRMed epub books (like those available from public libraries) are not directly downloadable to the Boox. You have to download them to your PC because they need the Adobe Digital Editions application, and then you transfer them to the reader. Is this correct? I'm trying to see the value of the built in browser if the only books you can download directly are out-of-copyright ones from Google.

Its not correct. The Boox is compliant with Adobe SDK 9.1 which allows for over the air download of Adobe DRM'd epubs and PDFs without going through ADE on a computer. However I have been attempting to do that recently and there are other things that stop you from doing so. At kobobooks I couldn't get any of the buy buttons to work for example and At BOB last night what downloaded was the file that makes ADE open and download the book on your PC. . so there is a little more work to do on the browser. . This will be completed shortly and Onyx is actively working with Kobo, BOB and others to ensure the buying OTA works for their sites.

I would have preferred it was already working mind you but it will work correctly very soon.
