My awesome coworker had a whole bunch of books in her trunk, and let me take some (took ten). I'm reading "How to Abduct a Highland Lord" by Karen Hawkins, which was one of the books I got from her.

Hee-Hee What she just carries around and distributes books around in the trunk of her car?

Sounds sort of like the speakers from the white van...

Nah, she was just cleaning out her house and put them in her car to take them to the local used book store. I did the same thing for her several months ago.

Done with Highland Lord, now onto "Heart of the Dragon" by Gena Showalter, first in the Atlantis ebook bundle. Both of her fantasy series are available as bundles for really cheap.

It was OK. Perhaps I just wasn't in the mood for a mystery. I found the shortcuts irritating, and the crime implausible.

Now for one of the TOR freebies from 2008 that I haven't got around to yet. Orphans of Chaos by John C. Wright. First of a series, so if it's good, my wishlist will expand again.

I Just finished "The Phrophecy" from Chris Kusnezki (lovely action with shooting, damage to 5* Hotels and the search for a manuscript written by Nostradamus), am still struggling with "The Swarm" from Frank Schaetzig (after failing the English version I went and got myself the original German one) and for some light reading in between I entertain myself with "The Richest Man in Babylon" from George S Clason and "SuperFreakonomics" from Levitt & Dubner.

But, I looked up one of the "The Stand" topics here on the board, and most people seem to love it, so that got me thinking.. I realised that the major thing I didn't like about it, is that I absolutely loathe most of the characters in the book, which is definately due to the way the characters are pre-interpreted by the guy who read the book aloud. So you are absolutely right that this might happen... I'm *this* close to putting it down and starting a new one, as to not spoil the rest of the 2/3 of the book I have left (The new extended version), and read it my self some time in the future.

I do want to make a point though, that this is the first (Well, second) audiobook where I felt that the speaker is the fault for me not liking the book. All of his characters are speaking like hillbilly's and are so annoying to listen to.. And the major characters are always sooo whiney whenever they open their mouth.. Not really helping me to like this book..

The othe book was Dragonlance - Dragons of Autumn Twilight, read aloud by a danish speaker. I've always had a thing for Dragonlance, but this guy totally killed the book since he had such a monotone voice, couldn't pronounce the english names correct, and had absolutely no idea how to 'flow' with the book.

So I guess there's quite a difference when it comes to the choice of audiobooks..
I don't like audio books... I like to read (and hear the voices in my head )... When I go to seminars etc. I get nothing out of it, unless I get a full set of notes, I can read later. My learning mode is definitely not auditory.

Finished it at the weekend and started on the first of her Glass series. Which is going a bit slower as I left my reader at home today ( ) and had too much else to do yesterday.

As for the Study series...
It was a fun read - light and uncomplicated. The protagonist could be a bit slow on the uptake at times (at one point I wanted to shake her for being so blind), but on the other hand neither she nor any of the other characters were prone to being unbelievably knowledgable (which made the chocolate incident more fun).

There was one thing that niggled at me, and occasionally kicked me out of the rythym of reading, and that was the country names. It wasn't so much that she had appropriated the names of real towns to name her countries after, but that they didn't really fit the countries.

I got bored with 'Her Fearful Symmetry.' Bummer, since I paid for it. I am not reading Nurture Shock by Po Bronson and Ashley Merriman and it is fascinating.
