Which format has a proper Table of Contents? I tried the epub and there was a TOC but it had 2 things in the TOC (Title and something else). So then I tried the lrf format and converted that to a epub but no TOC at all.

Can you tell me which one has a TOC thats properly intact?

Thanks,

Thanks for the interest, Guns4Hire. Unlike Amazon or even Mobipocket, authors have no control creating hyperlinked Table of Contents when publishing on Smashwords. Smashwords advises authors not to attempt to create hyperlinked TOC. If and when you encounter clickable TOC, it is usually generated by the Smashwords publishing computer. Due to the short length of Into the Abyss, I highly doubt you'll find any meaningful TOC links in my ebook in any format.

However, since Into the Abyss isn't a long book, you shouldn't have any real difficulty navigating the story. Hope that answers your question. In the meantime, I hope you have a blast reading the story. And don't forget to keep your eyes open for book 2 which should be available in a few days. Thanks again for the interest and enjoy.

Thanks

Appreciate your response.

I actually usually skip books (or at least try to) that don't have a proper TOC, just because I find having a TOC makes the experience better. Just my preference I guess.

So I will just put up with no TOC lol. Your book sounds very interesting, hope its as good as it seems.

Thanks,

I really appreciate your understanding and willingness to still try my book despite the lack of Table of Contents. Hopefully, Smashwords will one day give authors the option to create TOC for their books. Until then, we'll do the best we can to deliver the best product possible. Thanks again for the support!

Just to be sure that there is no confusion about my ebook, here is the product description for Into the Abyss (reposted from Amazon):

***

Don’t miss ROGUE HUNTER: GAIA: INTO THE ABYSS an original e-book short story, the first in a series that tell the adventures of intergalactic bounty hunter Zyra Zanr and her struggle to maintain order in an increasingly lawless galaxy. INTO THE ABYSS includes an excerpt from ROGUE HUNTER: QUEST OF THE HUNTER and offers a sneak peak into the events of Zyra's climactic battle against a powerful enemy who is determined to destroy mankind. THE HUNT BEGINS! Zyra Zanr pursues a dangerous fugitive in possession of a mysterious, but deadly weapon. Zyra must recapture this weapon before it is unleashed upon the unsuspecting people of the galaxy. Book 1 of 3.

***

To thank the many readers on Mobileread who have downloaded Into the Abyss, the sequel, which I plan to publish next week, can also be downloaded for FREE. As soon as I publish it online, I will post an announcement. Thanks for your support everyone. And I hope you enjoy the series.

P.S.: If you enjoy reading Into the Abyss, please leave a review at Smashwords.com or Amazon. Looking forward to reading your comments. Thanks!

This is a free stand-alone short story (and a "teaser") to see if you enjoy the characters, writing, etc. when (if) you make a decision to pay money for the author's novel.

This is quite normal and is becoming more fashionable as authors attempt to promote their work and encapsulate a larger audience.

Your understandable confustion may arise from the title's thread, where the author calls it a "book."

Douglas Clegg (a horror writer), also uses this method of promotion.

Dr. Drib,

Thanks for explaining the nature of "teaser" books so wonderfully. Prior to the advent of ebooks, readers have never had so many choices of books to read. It's a vast sea that one can easily get lost in. Offering free ebooks of shorter lengths allows readers to sample an author's style without investing a considerable amount of money or time. Sometimes, samples just aren't enough to give readers a sense of what a book is about or if the author's writing style suits their taste. Since my Rogue Hunter Gaia trilogy is being offered for free, I am able to tell a complete story to readers with a minimal investment of their time. Readers will be able to make an informed opinion of my writing style and decide if they would like to pursue reading my other works. If nothing else, I relish the opportunity to introduce new readers to some of my most cherished characters. Hope you guys decide to share the adventure with me. Cheers!

Can't thank everyone enough for checking out Into the Abyss. The response I've gotten to it is quite heartwarming. My editor and I are currently putting the final touches on the sequel. We will try to have it ready for you guys by tomorrow evening. In the meantime, if you enjoyed Into the Abyss and would like to post a short review, that would be wonderful. Thanks again everyone. Looking forward to sharing book II with you as well as reading your reviews.

I was looking at your book list on Smashwords today and noticed that you have Gaia 2 - Intruder listed. I checked via the PDF and it appears to be the same book as Gaia 1 - Into the Abyss but with a differing cover to reflect the new title.

Looking forward to the next book and am a tad confused now...

Hi Sabredog,

Yes. I did publish the sequel to Into the Abyss earlier. There were some hiccups on Smashwords during the publishing process. But I've finally got the correct version of my new book up. Feel free to head on over to Smashwords and pick up your complimentary copy. Hope you have as much fun reading it as I had writing it. Enjoy!

Very nice. I haven't had a chance to read your first one yet. My reading list is usually planned out months in advance. But you have been put on there. And I am bumping your 2nd one to right after the first 1st (I let it cut in line lol).

Anyway when I do finally read them I will definitely give you a review. Thanks!
