My current ebook read is David Sedaris' short story collection: When You Are Engulfed in Flames. I am looking for another leisure read as I am almost done with it. I like light non-fiction but need a genre change so I'll check out some of your recommendations.
I'm a medical student so my "work" reads are some Pharmacology pbooks and Case Files: Gross Anatomy ebook for board review.

Great book (the Sedaris one), although I kept getting the shivers when reading about the spiders.

***Neil, I'm a BIG Flashman fan and know that Flashman on the March, Flashman and the Tiger and The Reavers are all available in the Sony Store. Haven't been able to find any of the others. If it were up to me, they'd all be in ebook form!***

Thanks, Cassidy. Will have to look around, though. Sony's yet another US-specific store. Cheers. Neil

And indeed it was fun. Spaceships, romance, clones. All the ingredients of a good space opera, and put together well.

Now for another by Mrs Hoyt, writing as Elise Hyatt, Dipped, Stripped, and Dead, a mystery novel.

Just finished my first Haruki Murakami, Dance Dance Dance, on audiobook.

I'm not a big fan of audiobooks, because the text comes pre-interpreted in a way (by the chosen tone of voice), and its not always the way I would interpret it myself, or at least it doesn't allow me that freedom. But my job at the moment did not require any real concetration, and an audiobook was a great remedy to the crushing boredom I would otherwise feel doing it.

I don't really know how to describe the book, or if I "got" it. I may have to read it again some time, on my own. But I definitely liked it, that much I know.

On to the Diving Pool, by Yoko Ogawa, now.

My sincerest apologies for lack of response to the question of other formats, I was out of town for a couple days. I know Tony is working to get Kings of the Dead available on the Barnes & Noble nook. What other formats might he need to possibly look into? Tony really wants to get his name out there so future novels can possibly have more success.

I'm currently listening to Stephen Kings - The Stand, and I find it sooo boring... It really drags, and I find the plot pretty darn uninteresting. But, I looked up one of the "The Stand" topics here on the board, and most people seem to love it, so that got me thinking.. I realised that the major thing I didn't like about it, is that I absolutely loathe most of the characters in the book, which is definately due to the way the characters are pre-interpreted by the guy who read the book aloud. So you are absolutely right that this might happen... I'm *this* close to putting it down and starting a new one, as to not spoil the rest of the 2/3 of the book I have left (The new extended version), and read it my self some time in the future.

I do want to make a point though, that this is the first (Well, second) audiobook where I felt that the speaker is the fault for me not liking the book. All of his characters are speaking like hillbilly's and are so annoying to listen to.. And the major characters are always sooo whiney whenever they open their mouth.. Not really helping me to like this book..

The othe book was Dragonlance - Dragons of Autumn Twilight, read aloud by a danish speaker. I've always had a thing for Dragonlance, but this guy totally killed the book since he had such a monotone voice, couldn't pronounce the english names correct, and had absolutely no idea how to 'flow' with the book.

So I guess there's quite a difference when it comes to the choice of audiobooks..

Well, it was OK. It was fun seeing bits of her shifters fantasy series in as background, and it was written well, but I found the plot a bit weak, and the main character's actions (& the police's actions) unbelievable. Certainly nowhere near as good as her splendid Musketeers' Mysteries (as Sarah D'Almeida).

Now onto Charlaine Harris's Dead Until Dark, which I see is still at 100% micropay rebate at fictionwise.

I've just finished all 13 in the "Series of Unfortunate Events" by Lemony Snicket. What a ride! After the first four I was a bit downhearted, they seemed to be very samey and didn't move the plot along too much. However there was a dramatic improvement from No5 onwards.

I loved the final chapter which is quite different in tone from the preceding twelve volumes. It's much more melancholy and a little bit metaphysical. I'm sure a lot of it goes over the heads of the young people these books are meant for.

I'm now going to read the first two Parker novels by Richard Stark.

Reading How to Read Literature Like a Professor. Should have checked reviews of this before I bought it, and especially heeded the negative ones.

That was a good start. I won't move immediately onto the other in the series, although it's tempting, but I am looking forward to how things progress.

Next up: Voyage From Yesteryear by James P. Hogan. It looks like interesting SF. I find some of his stuff unreadable, but some is excellent. I hope this one is the latter.

It's not the most subtle book out there - it feels like the author is really hammering his points home with a sledgehammer (whilst trying to disguise this with a slightly cutesy, jokey writing style which I find alternatively easy to read and incredibly annoying). It's also a bit on the repetitive side (he especially seems to have a thing for pointing out that some writers write ironically). Plus, if you've been reading fiction for any length of time, it's unlikely to give you any new insights.

As an adult reader who's read fiction all her life, I suspect I may not be part of the target audience, though
