and for what its worth Calibre works exactly the same if I am on the local network with my iphone. open calibre turn server on(one press) open stanza on iphone and calibre appears under libraries, can then download anything fine. I have had to play with settings to get it working when I am off local network but it works fine now. | |

It's staggering the debate an unannounced product can provoke. I'm staggered that anyone would say "I want one" without knowing what it is. I guess I have to think they are Apple devotees. There is an assumption in this forum that people make rational purchasing decisions. Well maybe the people posting here do....but most people don't. I have a friend who recently got an iPhone and a while later asked me why it wouldn't take as good a photo as her old phone. So she had no idea when buying it that the iPhone camera leaves something to be desired. So not a rational purchase. So when some people here say that the iPhone is good enough for what 90% of people want - the reality is they don't know if it will do what they want (and most people just want to make calls and send texts anyway) but they buy it because they have been told it is the best - by other people who also made irrational purchases. So will I buy a tablet? Probably not. If it were to prove a brilliant replacement for my netbook, maybe. As an e-reader (which is where we all started from here), probably not - battery life, rewading outdoors, blah blah. Neither could I imagine reading a book on the iPhone screen. So convergence of devices isn't happening and for future holidays I will still need e-reader, phone, netbook, camera plus chargers and adapters! |

Who wants an Apple Tablet? Not me. Who needs an Apple Tablet? Not me. Who cares about an Apple Tablet? Not me. Who thinks Apple will make a really nice tablet? Not me. Who wants to actually pay for an Apple Tablet? Not me. |

I'd never buy one without knowing what it is, simply because it's an Apple device, and not a Windows device. Also, knowing Apple's history, it will be a beautiful piece of engineering, with a costly price tag.

Ok we get it, some people hate Apple with the same passion that they go to tea bagger rallys and call Obama a muslim communist socialist terrorist nigerian. Personally I've had a GREAT experience with Apple products, they are far beyond windows (I was a windows user for 15 years) in terms of computers. The iPhone is great. So yes I will give their tablet a very close look over. |

I like ebooks. Enough, to put up with the primitive design and formatting. But much of the public goes: ?!!?.... Apple may, just may, come up with an intuitive, versatile device, which will make reading not just plain text, but also magazines and other publications with complex layout and color, be an enjoyable experience. And if it in addition provides video playback and internet browsing, then it may be worth the $$$$ to many. I have high hopes for the Apple Tablet. I have little doubt that the UI will be good. The only question I have is about the display. And even those who hate Apple should root for it - if Apple popularizes e-publications, others will jump in, the publishers will take e-pubs more seriously, and so on. |

Heh Sonist. It'll do video great, I'm sure. But I think you missed the savage critique of anything e-reader related Apple did a while back (because they don't currently have control of the ebooks market). I'm expecting no native reader for ePub, for starters... That's what you want me to root for? Heh. Not to mention the right platform is a $99 reader, not a $999 tablet. |
