Possible to read B&N ebooks on unregistered Nook?

I have an uregistered Nook because I am not in US and Canada.

A lot of way to buy B&N ebooks from outside US, from my PC. My question is after sideloading the ebook from my PC to my Nook (put in B&N document folder), I can't read the book.

The book does show in the book list. When opening, it asked for my first/last name, and credit card; it always fails to verify these information after I press submit.

Is it because my Nook is not registered?

Anyone has the same problem?

Thanks

ps. I have no problem reading ebooks purchased from ereader.com on my Nook.

The only thing you cannot do on an unregistered Nook is buy and download books directly from the B&N site (using the Nook).
The B&N document folder is only meant for those books.
If you sideload the B&N books you have to put them in the My Documents folder, just like the other books you sideload.
As for unlocking the books. A lot of people do not understand that the name needed to unlock the books is the one in your B&N account. Which will not always be exactly the same one as on your creditcard.

The fact that we cannot register the Nook is probably not because we are outside the USA, but because there is a big problem with registering using WIFI. Take a look at the B&N forum. A lot of people in the USA cannot register using WIFI. Hopefully the next update will solve the problem.

Interesting. I registered my device over Wi-Fi in Europe in mid December under firmware version 1.0.0 so that does seem to imply that it is a software problem with later versions rather than a policy issue.

The people who can't register their nooks over WiFi could try to downgrade to 1.0.0 and see if it helps.

As far as I remember I've been having problems registering over WiFi with both 1.0.0 and 1.1.1 in January, then I gave up and registered over 3G.

Would downgrading process wipe out my ebooks from Nook? and where can I download the old firmware version?

It was my fault. I can unlock the ebook even my Nook is not registered.

I answered the wrong name when trying to unlock the book. (My name start with some code so that the re-shipping company (Vpostasia) can recognize me. I forgot to start with such code).

Yes, it will wipe out everything but the saved WiFi access points afaik.

The links to the old update should be available from somewhere on http://nookdevs.com/Softroot

PS. In no way I'm implying you'll have better luck registering your nook over WiFi with version 1.0.0 installed.
