Dang, why do authors have to keep coming out with new books.

New Anne Tyler - Noah's Compass

and it looks and sample reads great!

at amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/Noahs-Compass-...3164798&sr=1-1

At Sony too, but for $14.27 instead of $9.99

Currently digging into a reread of Pandora's Star on my Sony, in preparation for the sequel, and I've downloaded some more classics on my IPod- a couple of Agatha Christie stories, and since I've never read it, The Time Machine.

I am currently reading Royal Assassin by Robin Hobb. It's the second book in the Farseer trilogy. She writes very good characters that you do care about or that you really dislike.

After that, I am moving onto The Machine Stops. And then onto Runemark by Joanne Harris. I hope to be getting the eBook from the library this week.

I finished Fault Line. Meh. It was OK. Now I'm on "Trick or Treat Murder" by Leslie Meier.

I saw this thread and wanted to take the time to promote my husband's, Tony Faville, 1st book. It is a zombie/PAW book written in journal format (I know some don't like this format but for what my husband wrote it works and the sequel will not be in this format).

Here is the blurb that is on the back of the book to give you an idea of where Tony is coming from with his book:

From first time author Tony Faville comes a zombie novel for the zombie fans. Tired of zombie movies and zombie books where no one has ever seen a zombie? Tony has chosen to write a novel from the viewpoint of not only knowing what a zombie is, but also being prepared for their rising. He also delves into the human factor of a zombie apocalypse and how living this way day to day will touch even the most sane of individuals.

It is available for purchase through amazon.com here
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss?ur...ille&x=12&y=13

or if anyone would like a signed copy $15 via paypal to kingsofthedeadbooks@gmail.com

I, also, want to mention as I stated in the subject...you definitely do not have to like zombies to enjoy this book. It, like many of the better zombie movies, deals more with the people and how they deal with the situation, each other and themselves.

I hope you give Tony's book a chance, I have 100% faith that if you give it a chance you will love it! And if you do pick up a copy, send me a line and let me know what you think. Feedback is important whether it be good or bad.

Thanks for your time,
Heather
Unfortunately, it's only available at Amazon. Is it available elsewhere? If not, will it be available elsewhere?

"Men at Arms" and "Jingo" are two Pratchett novels that stand out for me.

"Men at Arms" is just plain laugh out loud funny, and "Jingo" conveys a interesting message about tolerance and stereotyping that has stuck with me ever since I first read it.

I received his newest hardcover for Christmas, but will probably save it until I go back to work.

Thanks.

And BTW Jon, what's up with you and the penguin avatar? First you beat him up, then you mutilate him, and now you've gone and froze the sucker. What happened to incite such hostility? Did you catch him pooping in your corn flakes?

From an Amazon review of Noah's Compass: Like Tyler's previous protagonists, Liam Pennywell is a man of unexceptional talents, plain demeanor, modest means and curtailed ambition. At age 60, he's ...

Mille thanks for the book tip, Kenny. I like a hero I can closely identify with. Neil

I read 'His Robot Girlfriend' by Wesley Allison yesterday. It was a free read. I thought the writing was good, but there wasn't any plot to speak of.

Yes, good to be back with what Ringo does so well - lots of action. Interesting developments in the larger plot, and a ridiculous teaser at the end. Fun.

Now The Android's Dream by John Scalzi. I really enjoyed his Old Man's War series of books. It'll be interesting to see what he's come up with this time.

[Edit] As first paragraphs go, it's an intriguing one:

"Dirk Moeller didn't know if he could fart his way into a major diplomatic incident. But he was ready to find out."

Just finished "A Face at the Window", number 12 in the Sarah Graves Home Repair is Homicide series. I'm trying to figure out why she went in such a different direction with this one, and from the reviews I've seen, evidently with the next one as well. The last two in the series I loved, they had a paranormal element that was very intriguing. But that's all gone in this one, it was much more edgy and intense than any of the previous books. Much more "thriller" and a lot less "cozy". It was still a good read, and a fast one, too; I'm not really complaining, it just wasn't what I expected.

I'm about a third of the way through Oliver Twist, and am firmly convinced that Mercedes Lackey has done a lot of cribbing off of Dickens. Not necessarily a bad thing, just an observation. (Take a Thief and Collegium Chronicles: Foundation in particular)
